Rafa Holds Transfer Meetings To Prepare For Summer – Ashley Meeting Necessary

There didn’t seem too much happening over the weekend – most of us were getting over the shock and disappointment of losing a game to Crystal Palace that we should have won.

But a report in the Chronicle today says that Rafa went ahead with his transfer meetings with the heads of departments and those meetings also included Managing Director Lee Charnley.

Lee Charnley still has a good working relationship with Rafa and seems to have been given the task of persuading Rafa to stay on Tyneside and sign up to terms offered by owner Mike Ashley.

He was given that task in the early summer of 2016 after we were relegated and he got the job done then.

Mike Ashley is the problem in all of this.

The manager is still waiting for answers from the owner, and we would hope that Mike Ashley will jet into Newcastle sooner rather than later – to meet with Rafa one on one.

It may take that and some plain talking between the two men because it seems there are huge differences in where they want to take Newcastle in the future.

We hope that Ashley will defer to Rafa and let the manager build a top team with funds made available by the owner.

It seems a no-brainer that if Ashley did this Newcastle United FC would be worth quite some money a few years down the road.

If only Ashley could see that investment is necessary in football, and the club can reap those rewards in the future.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Jail – I’ve only just noticed your earlier question about Twitter. To be honest I don’t know because I’m not a great Twitter user – I only use it for the team before matches and transfer rumours, I only follow about 25 people and one of them is you! 😀

Always liked sissoko as a player. Perhaps not his biggest fan as a person like but I like that he’s doing well and doing it in his natural position. Who would have thought he’d be bossing it in a champions league quarter final? Just gutted I can’t really rip on spud fans now for having their pants down for £30m.

By the end of his time Rafa had managed to get a tune out of him playing in his correct position !

I feel that’s what this team is seriously lacking at the moment someone who can break with pace and power between the lines we haven’t really replaced Wijnalum or Sissoko who could do it with great effect at times!

Get 2 of those players in the current team with our solid defence and things would start to look a lot better!

Ashley has invested in Newcastle, at least in terms of putting the money back in, IF you accept that last season was largely about rebalancing the books after our season away and this season about putting the funds in place for next term. The bigger problem has been that the investment has occurred inconsistently and too often unwisely and of course our progress has been badly sabotaged by the two relegations that resulted, and this is what Rafa is trying to change. It shouldn’t entirely surprise if Ashley does back Rafa. It wouldn’t be as out of character as many on here suggest. The sticking point is likely more about how and when the money is spent.

The impression was that whilst at NUFC Sissoko personally insited he be played as a Right Attacking Midfielder to the detriment of the side and when he is obviously a defensive midfielder with the capability of breaking forward.

It won’t happen but I would like to see a back four and three midfielders to actually help us control the game and play against Leicester and the rest of the season. The 5 at the back and keep possession on the wings strategy resolved a bad losing streak we had at the beginning of the season, being necessary but not great. Since playing Burnley away (26/11/18) W8 D6 L10, 24 points in 30 games (1.25) staves off relegation but does not bring success.

I would not mind seeing four CDs across the back as Dummett and particularly Schar are capable at getting forward. Playing Shelvey, Hayden and Ki across the middle should boss the midfield, move the team up the pitch and link up well with the attackers who will not have to cover a whole half, or more of the pitch to get a shot off.

We are actually 9th in the form table since match day 10. Basically benefiting from Rondon’s return to fitness, Schar and Lejeune in a back 3, and then again the introduction of Almiron.

I agree though a return to a back 4 with Lejeune now injured looks perhaps the best option.

or maybe a 442, with either Muto or Ritchie in for either Ki or Shelvey.

Have you been inside the stadium lately and seen the evidence of Ashley’s investment, the place is rotten, the old decaying seats with former ST holders names still stuck on them or the gluey patch where they have fallen off rather then been removed tells you everything about his investment.

It’s a small thing having your name on a seat but makes you feel proud that it’s your seat, knowing that there’s a massive waiting list to get their names on it.

So apparently Dave Kitson has just lost 250K in a Pretty Green investment. He also, apparently makes ridiculous claims when punting a new book, that’ll explain his comments and good or bad hits his Twitter would have received.
Loved this quote from Liam Gallagher when asked if Mike Ashley was buying the brand.
“But Gallagher seemed to rubbish those claims when asked on Twitter if Ashley was buying the brand, replying: “F*** him.”

I see that Dave Kitson (the secret footballer) that
was adamant that Ashley is selling NUFC
lives just a few miles from big Mike – so they
    may know each other socially.

Would be quite amusing if Ash had to do a NUFC lie detector test.

Karma sometimes can be a wonderful thing, but then again imagine living in a world where 150M is nowhere near going to break you, rather like the 300M Ash also lost on Natwest futures.
    – – – – – –

Sadly Kitson was just doing an April fools prank. Journeyman footballer and no mark pundit.

The club are to offer Matt Ritchie back to
Bournemouth in a part/ex for their Scots
    left winger Ryan Fraser.
