Attacking midfielder David Brooks joined Bournemouth from Sheffield United for a hefty fee of £11.5M last summer, but the 21-year-old has been in great form for the Cherries this season.
The Warrington born youngster has played 28 times for Bournemouth in the Premier League and scored 7 goals with 5 assists, and it’s hardly surprising that Rafa Benitez is reported to be interested in the player.
There’s a report in the Star that Rafa wants to bring in two Bournemouth players – David Brooks in addition to left winger Ryan Fraser.
There were earlier reports that Newcastle would try to do a part-exchange for Fraser with former Cherries player Matt Ritchie going the other way, but that would not be a good deal for Newcastle.
Matt’s one of our very best players and we must keep him at the club this summer.
But if Newcastle could sign Brooks for a fee that would be more than £20M – that would at least show some ambition from the owner.
21-year-old Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks
Isaac Hayden wants to leave this summer to be closer to his family in the south and Rafa has not played Jonjo Shelvey in the first team this year, so perhaps Rafa will want to sell the England International in the summer.
West Ham are reported to be interested in paying out £20M for the 27-year-old Shelvey.
David Brooks would fit nicely into the Newcastle team; he is a hard worker and ambitious and may be tempted to join Newcastle this summer.
But Bournemouth would hardly be willing to lose one of their very best young prospects who has been brilliant for them all season long.
And that’s especially true if it’s a club competing with the Cherries in the league table.
So this could be very difficult for Newcastle, but maybe a considerable fee could persuade Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe to sell and that signing could then persuade Rafa Benitez to stay on Tyneside.
But we would be surprised if Newcastle can sign David Brooks in the summer.
What do you think?

Comment #1If we were linked with him last season and wanted to sign him how many would suggest why we are targeting championship players? All well and good saying we should have got him after they’ve done well.

Comment #2I would swap Ritchie for Fraser, but that’s like me admitting I would swap lead for gold.

Schar article worth a read. 2nd highest for interception from a cb in the league and one of the better ones that go on successful runs.

Comment #4Like Brooks and Fraser but honestly, do you think Burnley would let two of there best players leave.
If we are going after anyone at Burnley I would go for Woods, like him as a forward, good target man, seems to be scoring goals regularly right now.

Comment #6Hennessy charge over the nazi salute got dismissed because he ‘did not know what a nazi salute is’. Somehow, LOL doesn’t quite cut it.
Reminds of a simpsons episode when I was younger. Character Fat Tony (Italian mob guy) asked where the stolen truck is, his reply, what’s a truck?

Comment #7Nostradamus @4 – I seem to remember somebody posted an article about worst players in the Premiership based on stats and Woods was top (or bottom depending which way you look at it) of the strikers list.

Good read that. He has a bit of a Divil in him that needs polishing out to some extent but Rafa can see to that.

Comment #9There was always something about Val doonican or more likely Rolf Harris replacing the Beatles.

May have that totally wrong.
