There was a time in the second half in our last game when Martin Dubravka seemed to be struggling after going for a ball in the penalty area.
And Matt Ritchie walked up to the goalkeeper and then thumped him on the back which seemed to relieve Martin of whatever pain he was having (he was finding it hard to breathe).
And that was likely replaced by a specific pain in the back where Matt had just thumped him – see video below for a good laugh.
We are now 7 points above the drop zone after Cardiff won 2-0 at Brighton last night.
We need another win against Southampton not just to ensure safety but to try to get as many points as possible in our final four games.
We’re quite sure that’s exactly what Rafa wants.
Martin Dubravka – it will be another tough game
Newcastle are even being tipped by some pundits to give title-chasing Liverpool a hard time of it when they visit St. James’ Park on Sunday 5th May – our penultimate Premier League game this season.
Martin Dubravka is back to his top form for Newcastle, and he said this recently on BBC Radio Newcastle:
“It looks like we are safe now, but we were still talking about how the next game is most important for us.”
“So now, we are coming to play against Southampton at home.” “It’s going to be a tough game because they are also playing to stay in the league.”
“So, it will be another tough game.”
“But we are playing at home so we would like to give the reason to the fans to be happy.”
“I told Ritchie I couldn’t breathe (at Leicester) because I went for the cross.”
“I couldn’t breathe and he said ‘are you okay?’ – and then he smashed my back!”
Just in case you haven’t seen the video, here is a tweet Martin sent out on his assault by teammate Matt Ritchie.
