Another Difficult Game – But Newcastle Must Beat Saints

There was a time in the second half in our last game when Martin Dubravka seemed to be struggling after going for a ball in the penalty area.

And Matt Ritchie walked up to the goalkeeper and then thumped him on the back which seemed to relieve Martin of whatever pain he was having (he was finding it hard to breathe).

And that was likely replaced by a specific pain in the back where Matt had just thumped him – see video below for a good laugh.

We are now 7 points above the drop zone after Cardiff won 2-0 at Brighton last night.

We need another win against Southampton not just to ensure safety but to try to get as many points as possible in our final four games.

We’re quite sure that’s exactly what Rafa wants.

Martin Dubravka – it will be another tough game

Newcastle are even being tipped by some pundits to give title-chasing Liverpool a hard time of it when they visit St. James’ Park on Sunday 5th May – our penultimate Premier League game this season.

Martin Dubravka is back to his top form for Newcastle, and he said this recently on BBC Radio Newcastle:

“It looks like we are safe now, but we were still talking about how the next game is most important for us.”

“So now, we are coming to play against Southampton at home.” “It’s going to be a tough game because they are also playing to stay in the league.”

“So, it will be another tough game.”

“But we are playing at home so we would like to give the reason to the fans to be happy.”

“I told Ritchie I couldn’t breathe (at Leicester) because I went for the cross.”

“I couldn’t breathe and he said ‘are you okay?’ – and then he smashed my back!”

Just in case you haven’t seen the video, here is a tweet Martin sent out on his assault by teammate Matt Ritchie.

Off topic but I think the French have deliberately done that to that church when they’ve realised how much it was going to cost to fix, get all the good stuff out while it was being restored and boom, then get loads of billionaires and people round the world to do it up properly.
    Yes genius really
Not just that macron is holding a memorial service this weekend for it …that should hopefully help phase out those jaunde vert protests for him .Job done

I thought he was so far down the pecking order they were thinking of loaning him out, maybe a few injuries let him in and he’s took his chance.

On the whole Notre dam thing …seeing all those aged timber beams smoking the next morning all I could think of was why no one had the thought of hanging a few fish up there in what rafters remained for a day or two craster style 🙂

Fkn pundits are blind if they can’t see the ball hitting his arm. You can see his arm ripple from the impact….great game tho. Don’t even start me on Jenas ‘s drivel throughout the game, utter sh!te

such fine margins even VAR is going to get it wrong sometimes but much less than without it.

even if it hit his arm is it handball because his arm wasn’t in an unnatural position.

    great game of football.

As one of the comments said
It’s not handball even if it brushed his elbow
    a. It’s ball to arm and he never move his arm
    towards the ball
    b. It went in off his hip/thigh.

Owen Hargreaves looks like an extra from Bread.

I think the VAR decisions were right tonight.

One excellent game, one dominant performance in the other match. Liverpool look like they’re coming into form at the right time, certainly in the Champs League. Man City could be rocked by the game tonight, it’ll be interesting to see how they react.

A lot of amateuuuuuuuuuur refs on here do not know the basic rules of the game. Currently a handball has to be deliberate.
To establish whether it was deliberate the following are THEN considered:-
*the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
*the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
*the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an offence
*touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.) is an offence
*hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc.) is an offence
*The goalkeeper has the same restrictions on handling the ball as any other player outside the penalty area. Inside their penalty area, the goalkeeper cannot be guilty of a handling offence incurring a direct free kick or any related sanction but can be guilty of handling offences that incur an indirect free kick.

Accidental handball will no longer exist next season and all this silhouette mullarkey is next season.
Interesting how this pans out -whether it will enhance the game or not.

So Barton’s been arrested for “racially aggravated assault”, implies he called him a kraut/nazi or similar before hitting Daniel Stendel, Barton is saying it was a reaction to being called an effing scally.

He’ll do time for that, he has previous.

In case you need help: surely you can snatch a top CF, world cup winner, scores when he wants, for about 16 m., 60 k a week. I.e. within our budget.

He’s disenchanted with Chelsea and wants a starting role. We’ll make him a hero.

When you sort your situation out, give him a call.

So there was a press brief yesterday afternoon, which according to George Caulkin everybody but him was there. So during a time when we are all desperate to find out news on the situation they have obviously threatened to ban anyone who publishes the minutes of the brief or even reports on it by the look of things. What a sorry way to conduct the running of a club that is the heart and soul of a city.
