Rafa Benitez has just given his press conference for the game on Saturday afternoon at home to Southampton.
The Saints are in 16th place in the league – one place and 2 points behind Newcastle.
An away win would take Southampton above Newcastle in the table, but we are hopeful of getting our 11th win of the season on Saturday.
Rafa Benitez answer questions from the press
This is some of what Rafa has said in his press conference today:
“We are at the same point with talks.”
“I finish my contract on June 30 and I am professional. I have a lot of things I want to do.”
“I can’t talk with people about my future when I don’t know my own.”
“I am focusing on getting the job done and getting three points against Southampton.”
“Our conversations are about that. How much can we spend as other teams are spending a lot of money.”
“Our conversations are about that. How much can we spend as other teams are spending a lot of money.”
About 95% of fans think we can take something out of this game on Saturday.

Comment #1I have have noticed a lot of sesquipedalian posts of late. Someone trying to baffle with science to look marginally intelligent me thinks.

Comment #3Just a Fan…. No one is advocating hanging it’s just that a bit of honesty and transparency wouldn’t go amiss seeing as we’re all supposed to support the same club.

Comment #5I would like Rafa to inform us that he is taking time out in JULY to weigh up his options giving the TOON first option on his services, but also stating he cannot go on under the straightjacket regime he has had to endure these last 3 years. The owner has Rafa’s vision of how the club must move forward in order to placate the fans and the team members, just avoiding relegation is no longer an option. The change must come from the top and Rafa MUST be able to run the club for the benefit of the spectator’s/fans, we can no longer exist as the whipping boys of the Premiership, we must be allowed to compete or he will walk. I would love to hear him say something on those lines as it will see Rafa out of his contract and in control of his destiny. THEN TFCB will have to make the decision which way to jump and suffer the consequences as a result. Its showtime, and been 3 years in the making.

Comment #6You would think that Mr. Ashley as a billionaire would have a bit of intelligence? Does he not have any negotiating skills?
Surely if he offered a contract, in writing, saying he would meet Rafa’s wishes over a period of three years but supporting Mr. Benitez with hard cash in the first instance fo buy players and then introduce the other wishes/demands over the next 2 or 3 years this could be something that Rafa would accept?
Or am I living in cloud Cuckoo land?
Also what Ashley seems to be blind to is that “Older Players” give an extra dimension and experience to the team and the extra points won, with their contribution, can be the difference between safety or the drop!!!
