Still No Room For This Player In Newcastle Starting Side

Jonjo Shelvey is going through a bad time of it at Newcastle and this year he is finding trouble getting any playing time in the first team.

With Sean Longstaff having come through the ranks this season and looking really good in central midfield it’s even been noted that Rafa could sell Jonjo in the summer.

West Ham are said to be interested at £20M although in recent days their interest has been played down in the press.

Rafa will get around £50M this summer to spend plus anything he gets from selling players like Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, Joselu and others this summer.

Rafa Benitez talks to Jonjo Shelvey

With the excellent results and performance last time out at Leicester City, it’s unlikely Jonjo will get a start at home to Southampton although he may get on as a sub.

That’s even with Sean out injured and out of the side for several weeks now.

This is what Rafa said yesterday in his press conference when asked about the England International:

“The priority for me is what? To win games.”

“He (Jonjo) is training well. Like all the team, he’s training well. But I do not want to answer if I will give opportunities to this one or the other one.”

“Some people can then say he is doing this or dong that.”

“The thing is just to concentrate on getting three points, and, after that, think about Brighton.”

“A lot of players are thinking about what is going on. They do not know if I will stay, so they can be ‘oh’, but they still have to keep working hard.”

“If you want to have some credit, what do you have to do? Give interviews? Write articles?”

“No, work hard and win. That’s it.”

Rafa is right about that – winning games is all important, and the mood on Tyneside seems to fluctuate depending on how we have done in our last game.

Beating Southampton at St. James’ Park is all that matters now.

We should be able to get a win against the Saints tomorrow, but they are also a team in form and have won three of their last four games.

I don’t like losing any player who can spray passes like shelvey and beyond longstaff we don’t have a midfielder who can. We do have defenders who can but maybe Rafa has eyes on a replacement who might have a better engine and less likely to get cards

Doubts are growing about the number of House of Fraser stores Mike Ashley will keep open as landlords lose patience with him paying no rent while he decides what to do with the spaces.

    https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/apr/18/house-of-fraser-landlord-serves-notice-on-mike-ashley-to-leave

They are so lucky he “saved” them

Its a familiar tail with anything he touches

    Average,

Do they factor wages twice? I’ve not seen any evidence of that

Charnley has indeed said that they factor everything into a deal……transfer fee, agents fee, wages for length of contract – is that not a sensible thing to do for comparison purposes?

thing is it’s not car crash it moving in the right direction at last. but hinges on Rafa staying.

toon22 you really shouldn’t want Rafa to stay as it won’t help you at all.

Rafa is a good manager but his treatment of shelvey has been nothing short of despicable
this guy singlehandedly dragged us to safety last season
You dont discard a loyal and valued servant all because a younger shinier player comes along
even if that player’s name is longstaff

I cannot believe fans like Ed think its ok to treat shelvey this way.
this vindicates people like Sissoko who show us no loyalty when when big money moves are dangled in front of them.

I was furious when he dumped us like dirt but now, I don’t blame him
Now he’s playing Champions league semis and making loads more money

There’s no loyalty in the game between players or fans.
    Quite sad really

Ashley’s only real crime is his poor taste in managers (pre-Rafa)
    Carver, Kinnear, Pardew, Shearer, etc

That aside he hasn’t done much wrong if you really think about it
The excellent financial health of our club is testament to this fact
If more people on this blog had the balls (and mental capacity) to think for themselves, they’d agree with this position

lesh – you suggested earlier psychologists prognosis and treatment of Jib Jibberish. I was saddened slightly as you did not include electric shock treatment.

Jib (poor innocent defenceless punchbag) was taking a bit of a beating this morning. I was going to suggest easing up but I now see he is deploying substitutes Jane and Just a Fan to help him out.

Ashley’s Majorcan villa is not in Puerto Andraitx.

For information and I know this a fact, when he’s on the island, Ashley stays at his retreat in a quiet little place on the south coast not too far away from but not Puerto Andraitx.

Naughty, naughty Google providing misinformation? Tut tut!

Maybe it’s time to change your search engine Jib!

I just do not rate that bloke at all mate, he is the buffer before situations are brought to Ash but from what I am told it has given him too much say and the power has gone to his head.

Rafa and Charnley do not see eye to eye that’s for sure.

    Cheers again fella

You laud Ashley for the club’s seemingly healthy finances but surely they would have been better were it not for the managers he appointed. Rafa’s saved the club yet Ashley’s treating him with contempt – explain that if you will.

    Bambams,

I know nothing of Charnley’s role or influence at the club……it appears on paper that he is the classic case of ‘boy done good’ – from apprentice to managing director is the epitinome of rise to power…….

However, it makes perfect sense that he would serve his ‘boss’ – if you’re on the promotion trail, that’s the path to follow…..
