Alan Shearer Very Impressed With Another Newcastle Win

Alan Shearer took to Twitter after Newcastle had beaten Southampton 3-1 through an Ayoze Perez hat-trick with two goals coming in the first half.

But we lost both Miguel Almiron and Fabian Schar to injury in the second half.

But this was an excellent win and performance by Newcastle when it mattered and it takes us to 41 points.

We’ll be technically safe if Cardiff don’t beat Liverpool at Anfield tomorrow.

I also said Miggy would get his 1st goal for us today so only a 50% success rate for my predictions, how has he not scored, really hoping he isn’t seriously injured and and he gets on again before the season ends so he can get at least one.

And I’ve just missed the bus, better start running!

On his own future, Benitez said: “Today, we will enjoy it. In an ideal world I want to compete for something. That’s the main thing. If you analyse the transfer fee and wage bill, it’s far away.

“We’ll keep preparing the team and see.” (BBC)

Rafa: “The way we play now. Almiron has pace, Rondon holds the ball up and wing-backs gives different option. Perez understands what he has to do now.” #nufc

Yup, how many times did people make the observation in a 4-2-3-1 that Perez never quite knew what his role was in the balance between defending and attacking, especially alongside players that he didn’t mesh with. Reaping the benefits of the system and personnel.

Another thing about Perez is as much as he gets buffeted and hacked at, he’s been an almost ever present for 5 seasons straight. 176 matches since his arrival and I think 90%+ of those are starts. Made out of durable stuff and definitely got stronger over the years.

    Still only 25.

Have to give credit to Southampton and their manager for the 2nd half showing, certainly made us sweat.

There can only be one MotM, however Dummett deserves a mention is dispatches, Richie too, Schar, Almiron and Rondon all played well, in fact the only starting player I wasn’t happy with was Ki.

Rafa is being much more open about what he wants and I’d say he is leaving, unfortunately. It sounded very much like “I’ve tried my best but I’m not going to be given the funds.”

Unfortunately I reckon the likes of Barca might just be taking notice of him as well, I wouldn’t bet against Ashlie cashing in on him, especially if Rafa leaves. 🙁

More from Rafa Benitez: “Our level has to be between seventh and 10th in the table.

“I am the manager until 30 June. We can see the potential. When you see the teams between seventh and 15th, we have to compete with them.”

As an almost ever present this season, with the 100% effort he gives to the team, with the vital match winning goals he has scored and the way he is taking us over the safety line in the last few games, Ayoze Perez has to be in serious contention for our player of the year.

Almiron just left SJP walking pretty slowly & limping. Schar’s injury seems to be just a minor one & he will be assessed this week. Certainly better prognosis on Schar than Almiron at the moment #nufc

Another unconventional assist for Hayden today. Think that makes it 4 now in 17 starts. Not bad for a player who is often unfairly labelled as a limited DM. His athleticism when matched by his attitude shows he can be a strong PL midfielder.

They usually come from winning loose balls high up the pitch and putting it immediately into a dangerous area. Was on top of proceedings all match, successful tackles aplenty and one particularly good one for Perez’ 2nd goal.

    Assured in possession too.

Great result today, Miggy Rondón Ayo and Dummett were unreal. Ritchie was awesome too. That save from Yoshida by Dubs was world-class if that was De Gea there’d be analysis on MOTD!

Just hope Shaer and especially Miggy are ok!!

Not in the right heads pace to talk about Rafa 🙁
