Unchanged Newcastle Team Against Southampton

Rafa Benitez has just announced the Newcastle team to play against Southampton this afternoon at St. James’ Park.

A win would almost certainly make Newcastle safe in the Premier League and would take us up to 41 points for the season, only 3 short of what we amassed last season.

Rafa Benitez – confident Newcastle manager

As expected Rafa has named the same side that started in the fabulous 1-0 win at Leicester City eight days ago.

This is what Benitez told the Chronicle today about the game:

“We all share the feeling I think – maybe we are safe, maybe.”

“I thought that 38 points would be enough, but the reality is Cardiff won their last game and now Cardiff, Southampton, and Brighton still in the mix.”

“It is not very clear.” “What is the best way to clarify the situation?”

“To get three points against Southampton.” “Every game you get points it’s easier to get to safety.”

“But in the mean time we can’t sit around wondering what others will do, we have to do our job.”

Southampton are in-form at the moment and have won three of their previous four games, with the one they lost being at home to high-flying Liverpool.

A decent 64% of fans think we can win this game this afternoon.

We hope they are right about that!

“Wayne Hennessey is ‘desperate’ to learn about the Nazis, says Roy Hodgson. Goalkeeper’s knowledge criticised by FA following charge”

Probably needs some help with his counting to ten and ABC’s too.

Rolando – you need to appreciate Lee Charnley is talking about an entirely different subject. It’s been a good fiscal season he’s saying. That and he hadn’t accidentally swallowed Lego since last term.

Hoping for a relaxed but focused display today. With safety virtually securewe hopefully will spur us to one of our rare attacking performances from the off.

Almiron to finally get a goal, hopefully.

Fancy us for 3 goals today and a win.

Sad state of affairs when the chairman cites a good season as not being relegated – I feel sorry for younger fans, at least I was able to enjoy the KK revolution and Bobby Robson years – seems a long time ago now when we were one of the top four sides and had a few runs in champions League … Something we’ll never experience again whilst fat ash is here and whoever he gets to manage next season
