Who Was Newcastle’s Man Of The Match Against The Saints?

It may be a daft question after Ayoze Perez scored the first hat trick from a Newcastle player since October 2015 when Ginni Wijnaldum scored four goals against Norwich City at home, but let us know who you think our best player was today.

It was our second win in a row after we were surprisingly beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace in our last game at home after winning the previous five home games.

So we now have six wins in the last seven home games since we were beaten 2-0 by Manchester United in early January.

Ayoze Perez congratulated after scoring his first goal today

Next up at home are Liverpool in two weeks time on May 4th.

Petez gets it due to his hatrick,
That apart Dummett put in a stellar shift and at the end rightly took the plaudits of fans and got a special hug from Rafa.

    No question re: MoTM

BTW: I was lucky enough to find a sports bar near Piazza Navona and caught 2nd half of the match on TV. Pub was called Abbey Theatre Irish Bar. Met one other Newcastle fan in there, who had a thick Geordie accent that I could barely understand! 😉
Turns out he was a youth football manager for a football team from Maryland, USA, playing a tournament here in Rome. Small world…

The fact that you’re in Rome shows just how much Trump’s done for you guys.

Just in case you’re missing the Donald, here’s Woody Guthrie with a song he wrote about Trump’s father in 1952. Trump senior was a nasty piece of work too.

    Great win
    Strange game
Poor up till Almiron got taken out seemed to galvanise the team brilliant last 25 minutes that half
Second half bloody mess switched off lucky they wasted chances then up pops Perez

Man of the match Oerez for his hat trick but Dummett pushed him close
    Merit marks
Dubravka 6 – brilliant save at the end but all at sea second half no communication between him and defenders let to many balls bounce or go over his head second half
Dummett 9 – outstanding game saved us time and time again second half
Schar 7 – sometimes brilliant other times poor a very mixed game from him
Lascalles 7 – steady game but lack the past organising the defence seemed to have gone quite
Manquilla 8 – very good game much better on the ball than Yedlin and can defend
Ritchie – 8 another who kept going second half dragged the team out of the doldrums they were in
Ki 6 – poor in midfield game seemed to pass him by – unlucky tho when hitting the post
Hayden 8 – brilliant first half first to the ball every time Second half seemed to be carrying a injury stopped closing down their midfield
Almiron 8 – Southampton were shi* scared of his pace all game excellent first half but drifted deeper and deeper as the Toon could not hold onto the ball
Rondon 9. – might not score the goals but his centre forward play was excellent held onto the ball brought others into the game and laid on Perez second
Perez 10- great hat trick fast becoming a genuine goal poacher seems to be in the right place at the right time But his overall play was very good today along with his chasing and getting first. But like the rest went to sleep for long periods of the second half

Halleluja and to think we’ve got our very own version of Trump in Ashley!

I listened to the match on the radio and the crowd sounded in good form. Were the fans as noisy as they seemed to be? And, by all accounts, Rafa’s name seemed to resound around the ground for some time after the game. Was Ashley there to hear it? Thought not.

Owen is arrogant and was caught in headlights when Jake said we had spent the least, I thought Jake would of taken it further and brought up factual figures but maybe in fear of getting it wrong he backed off.

How anyone can get a pundit job at a club he once played at who just happen to be playing and come out with ‘Why we talking about Newcastle ‘ it just shudders disbelief !

I think we are missing Lejeune at the back, its noticeable when we are on the rack.

Great three points, £125 million for Ash as well !

Agreed, I’m still seething at his smarmy little ill-informed outburst!!
Jake Humphreys was great in just calmly answering his childish rant and coolly stating the fact we all already know.
Benchboy had no reply and just sounded like an idiot repeating himself!!

    (End rant.)

    Chuffed at the result today!

Chico – enjoy your hols dude, have a nice pint and a pizza for me! Always enjoy your friendly posts on here 🙂 get some Birra Moretti down ye!!

Fantastic result today! Over the moon!

First half we were by far the better team. Ward-Prowse should have seen Red – not only was he the last defender he also made no attempt to play the ball.

It also looked to me that they tried to kick us off the pitch towards the end of he first half and Romeu certainly got his extra dig on Almiron’s thigh during the tackle that forced him off – albeit in the second half.

We did not seem ready for Southampton from the start of the second half. Credit to them, they turned it up a notch and their subs right at the half made a difference for them. But luckily not enough and we gathered ourselves at the right time that lead to our third goal.

Great game by our forward three. Maybe not for a complete 90 minutes and without Almiron it wasn’t quite the same, but Perez deserves many plaudits today and Rondon battled and played a few great balls especially for Perez’ second.

Credit to Dummett today. And despite the loss of our composure in the 2nd half, Dubravka made a key save at 2-1.

41 points has us safe – Cardiff have to win their last four to catch us – can’t see them getting a result against Liverpool tomorrow – and Brighton have a nasty run in to close the season.

Now can we just get this sorted to keep Rafa and work to establish ourselves in the PL and operate like a proper club? Too much to ask?

He took the mick financially with our club, he of all people should understand what us fans are wanting.

I think he likes to be different and possibly controversial.

But I agree with your description mate 🙂

That’s what killed me the most I remember how much we payed that smarmy bellend and he just sat back and laughed at us, then when United came in he ran and laughed even harder.

I’m sure he has his good days but I personally can’t say enough bad things about him. And there is very few people id bother hold a grudge against too.
