Newcastle United are now safe from relegation in the Premier League after Liverpool beat Cardiff in south Wales this afternoon by 2-0.
There is now no way the 3rd bottom side with 31 points can catch Newcastle on 41 points with only 3 games to go.
Cardiff City had to beat Liverpool today to be able to catch Newcastle who also have a better goal difference than the Blues.
In the other late game today, Crystal Palace got a great win 3-2 at Arsenal and they go above Newcastle by a single point.
Newcastle are now in 13th place and Burnley play at Chelsea tomorrow.
It looks like the best we can do is finish in 11th place.
[table “76” not found /]Let’s get Rafa signed up as soon as possible!

Comment #121Dubai I tried to explain to Jail that rafa will need to negotiate with Ashley. Its called realpolitik. Some fool said on here yesterday that he will stop supporting nufc if benitez leaves. Sorry, but as good as rafa is, the club continues, and real supporters continue to follow.

Comment #122That’s a different argument surely, the incoming transfer cash and the outgoing transfer cash (including fees) should all be in the same P/L, with additions from the main account (Sky money).
Probably why I’m not an accountant.

Comment #124I’m guessing that in accountancy speak, us getting (say) £32m over 4 years for Sissoko, that can all be written off in the first year, even though it comes in over a number of years, guess it’s all cash-flow really (which, as anyone knows, is the major thing that kills companies).

Comment #126You have to think Ayoze Perez’ comments about
leaving the Toon in the summer don’t look good
in the context of Benitez staying.
Maybe the Canarian even knows where Rafa is headed.

Comment #129On the Mirror’s pice, I think what’s telling is Rafa’s comment:-
“I don’t care about what we say, the main thing is what we do . Everything is about money. I have not had any answers. If I have the answers, then I can decide.”
I read that as, say what you want penfold, show me the money!

There has to be negotiations as to how much money is spent but there can be none on recruitment, how can he negotiate with men who haven’t got a clue how to run a football club?

Comment #131Luke Edwards in my fav. paper (go on roast me), https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/04/21/newcastle-playing-dangerous-game-hat-trick-hero-ayoze-perez/
Since the start of the year, Newcastle have won more points in the Premier League than both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Perez:- “It is going to be a difficult decision. It depends on a lot of things and, obviously, yeah, the manager’s future is one of them. We all want him to stay, it means a lot for this club. Every fan wants him to stay as well. So, there are a lot of things to think about, we will see. Now it is time to finish the season on a high if we can.”

I don’t think it is
Rafa has stuck by him through thick and thin
why would he talk about leaving a PL club
where the manager really rates him unless
something he knows about is about to change

Comment #134Hibbitt you’ve misunderstood me there but at least you didn’t get abusive, not that I give a damn. If rafa goes the majority of people will continue to support. The club is not rafa benitez.

Comment #135Jail i understand your point about incompetence but rafa is negotiating through the media already. I am hopeful he is happy with 50mill, and can live with a slow upgrade on the Facilities. As for using the budget, in the real world Ashley won’t want to sanction the budget being spent on one player. I can understand that. Fred, anyone?
