We did ourselves a lot of good by winning the last two games at Leicester and at home to Southampton.
Both games looked difficult after we surprisingly were beaten at home by Crystal Palace and we did great to get all 6 points.
That has taken us to safety on 41 points, and we need 4 points in our final three games to beat last year’s points total of 44 points.
But it seems the best we can do in the table is to finish 11th – one place lower than last season.
Rafa Benitez – upbeat with thumbs-up
Here’s our league position after yesterday 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge between Chelsea and Burnley – a good point by Burnley.
[table “76” not found /]And here are the three remaining games with Liverpool at home looking like a real corker!
Sat 27 Apr Brighton vs Newcastle 5:30pm
Sat 04 May Newcastle vs Liverpool 7:45pm
Sun 12 May Fulham vs Newcastle 3:00pm
And finally, to round things off here are all our goalscorers for the season so far.

Comment #90Lovem or Hatem Everton and Blackburn still have to play their quarter final, the winners of that will play Swansea in the other semi.
So, that’s 3 teams from Premier League 2 Division 1, the Division above ours. Everton are the runaway leaders and should be favourites for the Cup.
Still, it’s a cup final and anything can happen.

Comment #91Nice to see Sorensen getting back on the scoresheet LorH, I think that loan at Blackpool set him back terribly this season. I think that’s the first he’s scored since he came back.

Comment #92Bad luck on Brighton tonight, so nearly forced a draw. They’re effectively 4 points ahead of Cardiff if you take into account goal difference, but they have a tough run-in.
I’d prefer them to stay up over Cardiff, any day.

Comment #93You can’t blame Brighton for their tactics – they are scrapping for survival and that point at Wolves meant they were 3 points clear of Cardiff with a better goal difference. So Cardiff have to make up 4 points which is a win and a draw in 3 games. If they had got a draw tonight Cardiff would have just about needed 2 more wins and that’s assuming Brighton get no more points. They rested key players tonight so they are obviously targeting our game as the one to save them – it’s not going to be easy especially without Miggy and Schar but on the other hand all the pressure is on them and we can play with no fear!

Comment #95The BBC are reporting on the relegation battle, listing Brighton’s remaining games.
Newcastle (H) – 27 April
Arsenal (A) – 5 May
Manchester City (H) – 12 May
And quoting:
“The relegation run-in
Three games left for Brighton, but two of them look to be horrors on paper.”
Cheeky beggars. Arsenal fans will be furious about that comment.

Comment #96For God’s sake Munster can you not post without including some snide remark about Jail? I had a go at him a while back for continually doing the same and he (rightly) pointed out that he was reacting to his perpetrators. Give it a rest! The blog is not enhanced by all your petty squabbles. You all seem to take umbrage when it is not due and find fault in the least plausible remarks.
By the way, I’m not not anti-you or anti-anyone. I would just like this childish petulance to stop. But, if not, then – hey.

Comment #103I see Charnley said in his statement that the club had now agreed a deal with sports direct to pay for advertising…….since there was nothing obvious in our accounts about it, I looked in sports direct half yearly report (released in December) and found this gem…..
“During the period the Group was charged £1.0m by St James Holdings Ltd, the parent company of Newcastle United FC, this was in relation to the Group’s advertising at Newcastle United FC for the 2017/18 season. The Group considers this transaction to be in the normal course of business.”

Comment #104Must be a great business to pay yourself for your advertising, putting the money essentially in your bank account and then writing off the money for tax purposes.
God save the queen and all that.

Comment #107Got to love Munsters wish list when Rafa “legs” it Marco Silva and Javier Gracia, why would any of those two leave their well run clubs to work under Mikey Ashley’s stated policy of zero ambition, fight his relegation battles and treat the cups with disdain, if you’re just being fanciful, why not say I’d have Klopp and Pep if Rafa goes?

Comment #111I wonder, does anyone know the true value of all the advertising that shite direct have in the Cathedral? What would be the going market rate for that?
I’d hazard a guess of at least £10m a year, another way that he’s fleecing the club and bleeding it dry.

Comment #112It would also be interesting to know if that paltry sum covers the 100’s of Sports direct banners plastered all over the stadium or whether that also covers pitch side advertising?
Flannels pitchside advertising shown in their accounts?

Comment #117Wow NY, so realistically for all his advertising, it would be nearer £25-20m then, all the brands as as well as shite direct.
Probably why he (allegedly) wants to keep the advertising as part of any sale deal then – that’s, in effect a £125-£150m price rise for the club over 5 years.

Comment #118Munster on that note can I ask why you describe Rafa’s impending departure as ‘legs it’ as that implies fault on his behalf.
Kind of gets people’s backs up and causes the issues you say you have to respond to?
Why not say forced out or leaves with honour?
Looks to me as if you cause your own battles?

I’m not fighting, it’s a very valid point, I’d most definitely take Klopp or Pep, and those two you’ve just mentioned. I’d like Carlo Ancellotti the most though if Rafa is forced out.
