Rafa Benitez has returned to Newcastle to begin preparations for the game at Brighton on Saturday.
It appears he is no further forward on knowing what the answers are to the questions he submitted over four weeks ago to the Newcastle hierarchy – at the clubs’ request.
The Telegraph is reporting today that Rafa will seek a meeting with Lee Charnley this week to try to understand what Newcastle’s position is on what they are willing to offer him.
Rafa wants changes in the transfer system, significant transfer funds, and changes he wants to be funded for the Newcastle infrastructure.
He also wants to be able to keep and sign older players when it makes football sense.
This forced delay by Ashley does not augur well and it seems absolutely ludicrous that with just three games to go it’s Rafa who has to chase after Ashley for answers.
Rafa Benitez – will meet with Lee Charnley this week
Wants answers from the owner
The owner is again showing he’s a difficult character to talk to – never mind to negotiate with.
Mike Ashley is a strange character indeed.
Things are starting to look a little sinister on Tyneside and while it would be catastrophic, Ashley may be forcing Rafa out of the club.
It appears from the outside he is not willing to change his rules of the game as far as transfers go and not recruiting older players.
And Lee Charnley’s press conference on the financial results last week didn’t help one little bit.
All the talk was on keeping tight fiscal control of the club in all areas.
But that’s a policy that has yielded two relegations and only once in 12 years have Newcastle finished above 10th place in the Premier League – in 2012 when we were 5th.
That’s the only time we have qualified for Europe in Ashley’s long and tedious tenure of the club.
It’s getting to be an unreal and unwanted situation at Newcastle that has again has been solely created by the ower.
While we don’t think Rafa will leave the club you cannot accuse Mike Ashley of treating the manager with any kind of respect or business acumen over the last several weeks.
The communication with Ashley seems non-existent and that’s very dangerous.
