There is a report that Rafa Benitez and Newcastle United are interested in 19-year-old 6ft tall Venezuelan striker Jan Carlos Hurtado.
The news was reported on Argentinian radio station 221 Radio and Newcastle are said to be one of the clubs interested in the player along with French club Marseille and Italian Serie A club Atalanta.
The teenager started his career with Deportivo Tachir, Venezuela’s most famous football club and played for two seasons there before joining his current Argentine club, Gimnasia y Esgrima.
They play in the Primera Division of Argentine football – the top division.
Venezuelan striker Jan Carlos Hurtado (7) in action
Jan Carlos Hurtado Anchico (full name) played 17 times for Deportivo Tachir with 8 goals before moving to Gimnasia y Esgrima last year.
So far this season he has played 17 times for his club with a couple of goals and an assist.
He has played for both the Venezuela U17 and U20 sides and has one full cap for his country.
Jan Carlos Hurtado made his full International debut on 22 March this year against Argentina coming on in the 89th minute as a substitute.
We don’t know too much more about the player, but maybe he has been recommended to Rafa by our Venezuelan International striker – on-loan Salomon Rondon.
Rafa and his scouting team are trying to identify good young players to bring into the club over the summer transfer window.
Comments welcome.

I’ve no idea, “the club” obviously have an independent scouting network to Rafa as they keep offering him players, that’s probably why Mikey can’t wait to see the back of him so that he can get back to his horse trading.

Why can’t the club be interested in players when Rafa’s still under contract? Don’t put it past Ashley to bring Carr back into the fold so he can pick up from where he left off when Rafa came in.

From previous……I’m not sure the payment changes anything for Ashley. Charnley, last week said that the outstanding loan is considered long term and only payable on sale of the club – that doesn’t give Ashley a lot of wiggle room to take any additional money (unless you believe he is doing it illegally).
I see ‘business as usual’ – with a bit more money spent on transfers

Comment #8Where are we right now in the over all scheme of things. It was said the other day we have the most points since November outside the top 6. Or something like that.
What helped. Rondon finally getting up to speed, Leguene coming back, the form of Longstaff and Almiron.
We are 3 players away from going for the next level. Top 7. Perhaps 4 players.
Been here before though more than once. It’s normally when MA hits the self destruct button. Danger danger.

Comment #11Can’t see us looking at anyone until rafa us sorted. That’s why fat mike is stringing it along. The longer the saga drags on the less chance of signing someone.
