Jonjo Shelvey, Christian Atsu And Federico Fernandez Start Today At Brighton

Rafa Benitez has just announced his team for the game at the Amex Stadium this afternoon against Brighton & Hove Albion in the late kickoff game.

A win in this game will see us equal our points total of last season, which was 44 points.

From last Saturday both Jamaal Lascelles (slight stomach problem) and Miguel Almiron (out for the season with a slight hamstring injury) are not available for this game.

Rafa has shocked us a little bit with Jonjo Shelvey coming in for Ki in central midfielder to partner the in-form Isaac Hayden.

Jonjo Shelvey – given a rare start at Brighton

It’s Jonjo’s first start since last November.

As expected Fernandez comes in for captain Jamaal Lascelles and Atsu comes in for Almiron.

About 13 in 20 fans think we can win this game this afternoon against the 4th bottom side.

After 79 minutes Fulham have just gone ahead via a Ryan Babel goal to lead Cardiff City 1-0 – Brighton fans will be interested in that score.

    Brighton terrible defensively there.

Good cross from Dummett, but he was allowed to amble forward unchallenged. A bit of basic movement from Rondon and nobody marking Perez.

Not one of Dummett’s better siding tackles, usually so well judged.

Why Kenedy ffs? Muto is our player and shown much more this season and far more committed, Kenedy will be away in a month.

Does Rafa see Muto solely as a ST?

Want to see much more from Kenedy, at the very least in his attitude.

I nearly suggested the Ref could of still awarded a pen without Schàr having to go down – but its Mike Dean
    🙁

That’s why players have to ‘dive’, Schar’s motion was obviously impeded, but because he stayed on his feet he didn’t even pose the question in the ref’s mind.

Superior team in command, should certainly have had 1 pen and maybe a 2nd. Just got to stay on top and not get complacent.

    Brighton look empty.

Need to see the one on rondon again but looked like a pen, accidental but still a pen.

Schar one was clearly a pen. A foul doesn’t mean a player has to go down. Joke decision.

If I was a Brighton fan I’d be seriously unhappy with that effort from their players. Let’s hope we can get another goal and put the game to bed, as at some point they will get a chance.

WE are doing this to Brighton away without : Longstaff, Le Jeune, Almiron, Lascelles and now Perez. 68 % possession! Just hope eww don’t get complacent. Shelvey done OK seeing he hasn’t had much play time.

100 percent hayden has been superb since his introduction to the first team again this season.

Makes a massive difference to the team and seems vital to how rafa sets us up.

Superb display by him so far.

Gonna be gutted if he decides to leave but I’ll understand.

Paully you’re right Almiron would have loved playing against this lot. But need another goal to really make them go for it and then we hit them on the counter. They’ll probably bring on Knockaert the Whinner.
