Newcastle were 1-0 up after just 18 minutes in this game with another fabulous goal from Ayoze Perez – his 11th Premier League goal this season.
Newcastle were completely dominant in the first 45 minutes but couldn’t add to their score – which has been a familiar theme this season.
And with Brighton not having scored for seven games we even thought we could go on to win this game.
But a turning point in the game was when Perez had to go off injured after 32 minutes and on came Kenedy, who had a poor game.
But the second half was awful, and we allowed a goal after 75 minutes from Pascal Gross – when he was allowed to head past Dubravka.
That was Brighton’s first goal in their last 8 games – why did we think that might happen today?
And in stoppage time, striker Glenn Murray had a chance, and he should have really scored, and the Seagulls could even have won it.
Ayoze Perez – his 12th goal this season
The second half display was simply not good enough, but if referee Mike Dean had given us one of three penalty calls in the first half, the game should have been out of sight by half-time.
A very disappointing result against a side who haven’t scored in the league for six games and had picked up just one point in that period.
It wasn’t good enough overall.
Let us know who you think Newcastle best player was in the draw at Brighton this afternoon.

Comment #1I hope Rafa will be up for Liverpool game trying to prevent Klopp doing wot Rafa never managed at Liverpool but without LeJeune , Longstaff and Almiron and possibly Perez it will be a really uphill struggle and we could get a real hiding. Never hear the last of it in West Lancs if Liverpool win the title.

Comment #6Repost Ed moving the goal posts again to fast lol.
So if Atsu and Kenedy were trying to prove there worth we’ll here’s five quid, share it boys.
I never ever thought I would say, Mannie better player than both of them put together.
For me with only two games to go I honestly would give Sorensen a run out to see how he performs at Prem level, nothing to lose by having a look, not a starter but give him say 25 mins in both games.
Kenedy enjoy your exile in Chelsea’s under 23s.

Comment #8Kennedy’s homesick , London. He’s been yearning to be back down south all season .
Heart is not in it …he’s got all the tools , he’s just not giving what he is well capable of .
Bye Kidda. Thanks for your efforts last season . Good luck.

Comment #9Thanks Jib – very thoughtful of you mate. What makes you think I could afford a £1M+ property ? And I certainly wouldn’t contemplate moving to Sunderland!!!!
Nah I’ll just take the flak like I have from the red scallies in the past.

Comment #10I’m not a Shelvey fan but, apart from a couple wayward passes, he played alright, given his long absence.
Now, for the hba revenge 😉
