Conflicting Reports On Whether Newcastle Want This Top Free Agent

Newcastle United can get their chance to sign Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck this summer when he becomes a free agent.

It did seem certain he would be allowed to leave the Gunners but news over the weekend that Arsenal are offering him a new deal to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

But the deal is with reduced terms from what he’s currently getting.

There was news over the weekend in the Mirror that Newcastle were interested in signing the player.

Rafa Benitez is a long-term fan of the striker and was interested last summer in signing him for around £10M.

Rafa wanted to sign the player and Newcastle still need some extra scoring power up front.

Danny Welbeck – do Newcastle want to sign him?

It’s been another disappointing season and we have only scored 36 goals in our 36 games.

Last season we scored 39 goals in 38 games so nothing much has improved on the goalscoring front this season.

Welbeck has been out injured for a few months now but is now said to be fit and ready to play.

There was also news from the Chronicle over the weekend that Newcastle will not be interested in trying to sign the 28-year-old former Macnsheter United striker.

The England International does have a history of missing games through injury and he’s getting on a bit in age – well as far as Mike Ashley is concerned – so maybe Newcastle will pass on the player?

What do you think?

Even if we want him, I will bare my arse in Fenwick’s windows if we do.

Salary way too much, signing on and agent’s fees at least £15m. When is a free transfer not a free transfer?

    Oh, and he’s too old.

ashLIE will work this out as a (say) £15m initial cost, then wages of £7.5m a year for 3 years and with no sell on value. So he’s a £38m purchase.

I wonder if, after twelve years of taking the pi$$ Ashley realises he’s got our measure, he knows that if he just ignores Rafa and lets him slip away in to the summer that ST and gates will be down, he’s faced it before, he’ll think he’ll just give the shortfall away so it doesn’t look bad on tv and the storm will weather and people will start coming back thinking that their staying away is pointless as the ground is full. Maybe he has got our measure and we’re just gifting him a free ride.

    Ashley will rinse and repeat.

    Why would he change?

Is there anything in it for him to change his strategy, he’s known all along the clubs potential.

£££££££ is all hes interested in, unless he sells or hes serious about selling nothing will change!

Poor league, but there really is a few promising players in the spl at the moment, a young lad at Motherwell, David Thompson we should be seriously looking at, he I think will end up a really class pro, along with Ross mccrorrie at rangers, good holding player, Lewis Ferguson at Aberdeen, and Greg Taylor at killie. Would fill up squad, all young, promising and honestly pretty cheap. And fit the bill. Could get all 5 of them for about 20 mil.

    Good thinking
Hull signed Andy Robertson as a 20 year old from Dundee
    for £2.85M
Two years later LPool paid only £8M for him.
Arguably the best left back in the EPL now

i am not sure there is that much to discuss ever since rafa joined he has been saying the same about the training ground and academy upgrades
its the same with moving quicker over signings

most if not all of what rafa wants he has mentioned more than once over the last 3 years

also not long after ash arrived we had new plans for a new training ground if back then they met the grade why did they commission someone to design it here we are years down the line and they think it is adequate

    Cheers for the replies.

I just cant fathom him out, we have the chance to attack the top 6 !

If he hasn’t got the minerals he should sell up to someone who has.

But like so many have said, £140million each year from PL

Just so frustrating and to an extent I feel sorry for Ash, he could of had legendary status for the right reasons – he just cant see what’s in front of him.

I don’t see there being a big backlash when Rafa leaves. There’ll be days of anger and internet rage but will blow over after a couple wins and some signings. Couple months into the season you’ll see the narrative of supporting the team and hope to avoid relegation, people who want to do something about it won’t have enough numbers or will be ridiculed.

They say Rafa leaving will break the camels back but in my opinion, it broke long long time ago. There may be some that leave but I think there will be enough that replace them. There are going to be many fans too that don’t like the situation but will still go to games and support the team as that’s how things are for them, just a part of their dna.

I think you are right, I thought the fans would have increased the pressure on Ashley after twisting his arm up his back and forced him to sign Almiron . I thought it would have made sense to refrain from purchasing STs and club kit in solidarity before Rafa’s contract was sorted one way or the other but Ashley knows that fans who buy STs will turn up regardless.

Danny Welbeck is a very under rated player. I was disappointed when he was sold to Arsenal. He may not get huge amounts of goals but he puts a shift in. I like him very much. A definite plus to any side. His injury record is a bit worrying.

Not a chance we’ll buy him. He’s the wrong side of 26 and would still command a decent wage, which Chumpley has already pointed out we don’t like.
