We have had two players on loan and one new signing this season – and all three players have made little or no impact at Newcastle this season.
Kenedy was fabulous for us last season on loan from last January and fans were delighted when Rafa signed him on loan for this season.
But he’s doesn’t look like the same player who played for us last season.
He has had some family difficulties with his wife and kids still in London, but he’s done very little for the team this season.
Rafa will not be signing him permanently, and he’ll be unlikely to come on loan to Newcastle again.
In retrospect it’s good we didn’t attempt to buy Kenedy last summer for a big (massive?) fee from Chelsea.
And another on-loan player Antonio Barreca has played only four minutes for us, so exactly why he was brought in for a loan fee we don’t know.
Yoshinori Muto – after scoring at Manchester United
It was probably to give cover to Paul Dummett who had been injured but was fit again when Barreca was signed in late January.
It seems that Rafa thinks the Italian is not suited to playing in the Premier League.
Whatever chance he had of being signed by Newcastle permanently seems to have now been lost.
And then there’s Yoshinori Muto who at a cost of £9.5M is a significant transfer – well at least for Newcastle he is.
He has had difficulty settling in on Tyneside, and he didn’t speak the language well – and that didn’t help at all.
The best Newcastle can do with the Jamapnse International forward is to hope a full preseason will allow him to settle into the team better and he is also taking English lessons.
His wife also had a baby late last year, so he has also had some family separation difficulties.
Two of the above players – Kenedy and Barreca – have lost their chance, but Yoshinori Muto will have a second chance next season and show Newcastle what we bought for £9.5M.
We hope we are pleasantly surprised.
