Newcastle will play Liverpool at home tomorrow in what is a massive match for Liverpool.
Basically, the Reds will need to win to keep up with the pace set by Manchester City who have won their last 10 league games, since we beat them 2-1 at St. James’ Park on 29th January.
Rafa likes to win his last games of the season – especially at home – and the lads will be going all out for a win.
Of course, Rafa likes to win every game.
Rafa Benitez with Jamaal Lascelles
Liverpool were beaten 3-0 in midweek at Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final, so that may help Newcastle.
This is what Jamaal Lascelles has said as reported in the Chronicle today:
“We normally do finish (the season) off strongly at St James’ Park,”
“Last season we beat Chelsea 3-0, so we do normally finish off strong. Liverpool will obviously be playing for the title so they will be flying.”
“It won’t be like the Chelsea game, where I think they were done and they weren’t really playing well.”
“But we are going to make it tough, we are going to go for the win, and we want to keep going until the very last game of the season.”
“We are going to make it tough for them. They probably know that themselves.”
“It is not a nice fixture to come here, especially with our recent home form.”
Newcastle have won six of our seven last league games at home.
It’s one of those games that we cannot make many mistakes – if we are going to take something out of this game.

Guardian – Another post-Europe hangover for Liverpool?
Following the disappointment of their reasonably heroic Champions League defeat at Barcelona, Liverpool must rouse themselves for what could be an extremely tricky Saturday evening appointment at Newcastle in which they simply cannot afford to slip up. With only two matches of the Premier League campaign remaining, anything less than a win for Liverpool would leave the door open for Manchester City to all but wrap up the title on Monday. One suspects this is a far tougher assignment than Jürgen Klopp would like so soon after a gruelling and dispiriting game at the Camp Nou and the portents are not great. Last September, a BBC study on the form of Premier League teams following midweek fixtures in Europe showed that Liverpool had won half a point less per game on on average following European fixtures over the previous five years, the worst record among their top-flight rivals. Last season alone, coming out of European games, they dropped points against Burnley, Stoke, Everton and their opponents on Saturday, Newcastle. BG

Just hope everything goes well away from the football – that’s a long day for ‘several drinks’ before kick off.

Considering the stadium holds 52,000 I thought that figure for the petition was perhaps low. So then I looked on the Chronicle website to find it and there is no link showing. Perhaps if it was more transparent the number of signitures would be higher.

Comment #8Very difficult to win this one as we won’t be at full strength. Lejeune and Almiron are big players for us and we can’t adequately replace the former’s distribution from the back or the latter’s pace and running in the final third.
Our best 11 is good, and in a number of positions we are well covered, but in others not quite.

Comment #17Last home games over the years we have kicked ass, I just have that feeling we may upset the odds on Saturday. As for Salah, just give Dums some Kabab wa kofta in his secret pocket and Salah will not go anywhere near our goal.
I do so hope that Salah and Mane have one if there nightmare games which I’ve seen over this season.

Comment #23With 3 games to play and everything on the line Liverpool will come out firing and 100% focussed. Obviously if we can strike first our prospects will improve substantially, but they are a frighteningly potent side really. We’re gonna need a big chunk of luck and to compete like ferk, while also maintaining our discipline and shape. Always a great fixture though, Liverpool home or away. Looking forward to it immensely.

Like a house, a football club is only worth what somebody is willing to pay. So after twelve years of “trying” to sell the club, he evidently is asking too much.

Comment #29If Rafa isn’t confirmed by sat then expect Ashley to do his usual one and mess the club up again. A new manager and no ambition. I hope the fans get behind Rafa and the team on Saturday and let the tv crowd know what we think of Ashley.

Comment #30maybe if Ashley was selling the full club and not just the shell it might be worth that,
but its seems very odd that prospective buyers keep walking away after completing a very expensive due diligence that the club is not worth the asking price in its current form.

Comment #31Those club figures are BS. They only valued clubs based on this:
profits, revenue, non-recurring costs, average profits on player sales over a three-year period, wage control, proportion of seats sold, and net assets.
But yeah, we can go along with Burnley being valued at £400m lol because “the report labels the Clarets as “arguably the most-sensibly-run club in the Premier League financially” with the third-lowest wages in the division, which is why they are worth £398m.”
