Sky Sports Pundit Predicts Newcastle vs Liverpool

With Bournemouth beating a 9 man Spurs side 1-0 with a stoppage-time goal they now move 3 points ahead of Newcastle and we are down to 14th place in the league.

So we need to take something out of this game tonight

It will be tough but the last time Manchester City didn’t win in the league was when we beat them 2-1 at home in late January.

So it’s possible we can win but everything needs to be near perfect tonight.

This is what Paul Merson (shown above) has said about the game:

“You hope Liverpool win, you really do, (we don’t) because otherwise, you look at it and the fact they lost 3-0 at Barcelona, and if they draw here their season’s fizzled out in four days.”

“I think they’ll win, the other night they just came up against an extraordinary club. They don’t deserve their season to fizzle out.”

“They should at least take it to the last day.”

“Newcastle will make it a long night for them, they’re used to being tight, they don’t have to entertain, their fans know what they’re like.”

“They’ll make it hard and it’ll be a tough one.”

Prediction: 0-2

Mersy Mersy Me! Paul’s latest burp not causing any ripples again. Guess we’ll have to wait for Dr Death Lawros smug interjection. 🙁

“they don’t have to entertain”! Hang on hang on hang on you’re kidding, right? There’s only two things I remember having to watch through my fingers – the cybermen when I was 10 and NUFC in the last decade. It’s entertainment all right – maybe not how you particularly want it – but it’s definitely compelling stuff!

i think Rafa won’t want to lose his reputation with the Liverpool fans by being the one who stopped them winning the title so i think he will deliberately select a team that is designed to lose without looking as if that is the intention so i’m sadly going to predict a Liverpool win.

do no teams want to finish in the top 4
Arsenal – 0 points from last 3 league matches
Man Utd – 1 point from last 3 league matches
Chelsea – 2 points from last 3 league matches
Spurs – 3 points from last 4 league matches

Jane yes that would be a marvelous idea because the entire Geordie fan base wouldn’t spot Rafa sticking Shelvey, Atsu and Kenedy in and putting Yedlin back on at RB – no; what’s the chance he’ll not only get that past the crowd but also he’ll fool the players into thinking a lacklustre defensive approach and gung ho attacking style won’t be out of step? Pretty good I’d say. Thumbs up to that idea. 😐 Let’s ingratiate the Liverpool fans, where I don’t work and the incumbent ain’t going anywhere, and alienate the NUFC fans who revere him and where I’m trying to get a new contract.

You outdo yourself just when you think you’ve plunged the depths. Brava!

We will lose because we simply weren’t as good on the night. Not for any other reason. I don’t think there’s any such generosity in true professionalism. I’m sure Rafa would appreciate if you can’t win on your own merits, you’re not worthy.

If Klopp and his reds need a leg up to win the title then what’s their point? Would Benitez risk his professional reputation being spotted by other professionals chucking a game slyly? I don’t think Liverpool need any favours and if they did they aren’t good enough. They should beat us whoever we put out. It’s theirs to lose.

I’m not in favour of the change.org or the Chron petition to get supporters to sign it In order to get Rafa to stay. I thought about it a while wondering if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.

My take is this . I don’t want Rafa to let his heart rule his head ..it’s his career and if he signs another contract because of the emotional ties he has with the fans it’s not right.

This petition is heaping undue pressure on Rafa at a time he needs to assess the situation with a clear head… and not bow down to Ashley and the austerity measures he heaps on managers and the Supporters.

It will mean Ashley has got his man and Rafa has comprimised because of emotional ties , that’s not what we need or want.

I would sooner Rafa walk than work under Ashley’s constraints and creative accountancy and signing players who are 4th down the list .

    Keep your Pride Rafa .

    No comprimise with Ashley.

Martin Samuel has made incorrect assumptions

“We must commit to the view that he ..is prepared to irreparably harm his professional reputation and suffer public humiliation by making counter-productive decisions to benefit a rival.”

“He would have to give players pre-match messages that would, in part, reveal this nefarious plan.”

quite the opposite everything would be made to look as if they were trying to win.

the players might mess up the plan though by playing unexpectedly brilliant! hopefully!

Jane if you were trying your best to make toon22’s theory of you being an Ashley PR shill come to life this is a pretty canny job –

“quite the opposite everything would be made to look as if they were trying to win.”

Benitez would have the entire footballing staff conspire together to throw away a game to allow another team to win the league title? And then when it worked the whole conspiracy would be leaked out, allowing Ashley to regretfully part company with Sr. Benitez ….”so long and thanks for the championship promotion…. ” Etc?

I can’t believe anybody thinks Rafa would be so unprofessional and go out to let Liverpool win. From all of his interviews we can see how he is a born winner, even the one when he had to become online solitaire champion, he will be going all out for a Newcastle win tonight. Ok, if we loose we loose, but be nothing to do with Rafa trying for a loss

Rafa – “Ah! Señor Miguel! At long last we meet, and I see you have the contract – where do I sign?”

Ashley – “Ermmmm…let’s not be hasty Rafa – what’s this about us deliberately getting stuffed by Liverpool because you wanted your old employer to win the league? What about the millions of pounds I’ve lost through dropping a couple of places in the league?”

    Rafa – “Oh. I didn’t think errrrrr.. I mean I didn’t throw it Jefe, honestly – it’s just they were too good…”

Ashley – “Just sign the papers, Rafa..”

Rafa – “(Phew!) Ah …. Si, of course….” (Rafa scribbles his signature furiously followed by Ashley taking the paper out of his hand and grabbing his Biro back) “I’m so glad we cleared up this misunderstanding and got he contract signed at last!” (Rafa wipes sweat from his brow with hankie)

Ashley – “Contract? Nah – that was your resignation letter…… PULIS! YOU CAN COME IN NOW…”

Well I made a bet with a local Emirati mate of mine, who’s also a bindippers fan – and a quite high ranking police officer at that. If we win he buys me 4 beers, if they win then I’m buying him 4 tomorrow.

Gotta love Sharia and all that.

Jail thinks nothing of seeking explanation from the likes of Jib and Munster. As Jib points out he’s inclined to whinge about all and sundry. Indeed what a fabulous blogger!
With next season in mind I’ve suggested to Ed that Jail’s comments in future should be premoderated to ensure discussion on here remains on topic.
We agreed that Jail’s posts could state
“Please be aware that there may be a short delay in comments appearing on the site”.
If Jail continues with the same blowhard ad hominems he could simply be phased out all together.
