The Sun is reporting today that Rafa Benitez wants to sign Young Boys defender Loris Benito.
The full-back will become a free agent in the summer when his contract runs out, and Rafa will always be looking for bargain buys to bring in better players than we have each summer.
Rafa’s right to say we don’t need £200M – but we do need to pay big money when we need to – to strengthen critical positions.
The three major areas of the team that needs strengthening are at full back, central midfield and striker – maybe two players brought in for each of those positions.
27-year-old Young Boys defender Loris Benito
Benito has been in outstanding form for the Swiss side this season as he has performed exceptionally well in the Champions League against teams like Manchester United and Juventus.
He is a left-sided player who can play left midfield and can also play at center-back.
Benito has been at Young Boys since 2015, and both Watford and Burnley are other clubs are said to be after him.
Benetio has two full caps for Switzerland and from what we can tell he would be a good addition to the team.
Maybe Rafa will finally bring in some competition for local lad Paul Dummett this summer, and Fabian Schar can help get his Swiss compatriot to Newcastle.
If Rafa stays and the summer transfer window is to be successful Rafa will have brought in maybe six or seven new players and moved out a lot of the fringe players who do not have a future at the club.
But Newcastle still have to sign Rafa to a long term deal and give him most of what he wants.
The club have dealt with his contract extension incompetently this year.
But what’s new?
We still hope for the best in the summer and that we can have a much better season next season – these relegation fights take a lot out of you.
Especially when there’s not much there, to begin with.
🙂
Oh well – we move forward as usual.

Comment #43I am 17 years older than Rafa, he will be 60 years old in 10 months time.
Approaching 60, and hoping to continue a career for another ten years, makes you very serious when considering your destiny. I know, I went through a similar situation when I was 60.
I was offered a new career opportunity, however it required a twelve month sabbatical before starting my new position.
I eventually turned down the offer, simply at sixty years old you don’t want to kick your heels on gardening leave. Irrespective of the dosh involved.
I’m sure Rafa will feel the same, he has invested three and half years on his ‘project’ and no-one would blame him if he walked, (even with the fat part of £20m in his pocket!) he will have reached a compromised position.

Comment #44Tynemouth, what did Brexit do to you that made your contract difficult to negotiate?
It really doesn’t make sense.

Brexit had nothing to do with my contractual conclusion. The difficulties were simply of a legal nature and inevitably about ongoing financial arrangements, liabilities, pension arrangements etc….
Brexit was simply a target date, however I did not want to continue post Brexit. A fundamental factor of our business was the ability to move preproduction, prototype, conceptual engineering products in and out of Europe, it is difficult enough pre-Brexit, but it is critical aspect of product development to move these items freely, and critically with a high degree of confidentiality.
Not only ‘just in time ‘ but ‘ahead of time’…
Another aspect of Brexit that hasn’t been considered, it’s not a question of remain, but one of retain!…
