Elias Sorensen has had a break out season for Newcastle this year, albeit not for the first team. Sorensen has been named as one of nine players for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award.
The Danish Under-21 international has had a fantastic season bagging 20 goals. He was playing so well that the club got him a loan spell to League One side Blackpool.
Rather than propelling the budding star up the ladder to the Newcastle first team, this move ended up knocking him back a few steps.
Whether it was a new atmosphere or something to do with the Blackpool manager Terry McPhillips, we are not too sure.
Elias Sorensen – an emerging young star
But the lack of match time at Bloomfield Road was detrimental to the youngster’s development. So much so that the Newcastle hierarchy terminated young Elias’s loan spell in early March.
This disappointing loan spell cost Sorensen the second half of a crucial year in his development.
The 20-year-old is still quite away from the Newcastle first team squad. This summer Newcastle United must make it a priority to find a loan spell that works for this bright talent.
We have seen far too many sterling youngsters in the Newcastle ranks fade away without ever breaking through.
It would be a shame if Sorensen joins those ranks. We hope the club can find a perfect loan match and maybe we’ll have a quality striker to bang in those goals at St James Park.

Comment #42Nice to see the transfer ban against Chelsea upheld. They have always hidden loads of good young players away so other teams couldn’t get access to them.

Comment #43Agreed on the Everton commentators, they’re even trying to give some info about our players.
I’ve only been watching 10 mins, mind. They look the better side, but you’d expect them to – best U23 team in the country by a distance.
Seeing as it’s on topic with the thread, where’s Sorensen, is he injured or being saved for the play-off final?

Comment #450-0 so far although Everton have missed a couple of easy (ish) chances.
Some very good saves by Harker as well.
Strange to see both Sorensen and Toure on the bench.

Comment #49I do appreciate the clubs who put the U23s matches on YouTube. There’s no point in NUFC trying to charge for the reserves games on NUFC TV as often we can watch on the opposition team’s channel for free.
If they stuck some ads on the live stream and posted it as a vod with ads afterwards, I reckon they’d make just as much money and get more people supporting the kids. That would probably even boost attendances at their matches.
So, that’s one point to Everton to go with the very many they’ve lost over the years, the kidnapping of Lewis Gibson being one of those.

Comment #50Cheers Ron. That has to be because the play off final is seen as a) more important and b) more winnable.

Anyone ever looked at it? I haven’t. Can’t say they’ve done a good job of publicising it.

Comment #62Good lad, Bill – we need video evidence, mind 😉
Harker got himself a bit lost there. He’s still just a young lad at 20, he was behind Freddie Woodman at the start of the season. He’ll cut those mistakes out over time.

That YouTube channel, it’s done a few good things to be fair just not enough at all. The only good thing to come out of the mclaren era was the pre season videos posted on there. Last season there were a couple fifa games between players, lascelles v Aarons which was fun to watch and Perez v haidara.
