Rafa Keen On Young England Striker – But Only In Permanent Move

The Northern Echo is reporting today that Rafa Benitez is interested in signing England striker Tammy Abraham of Chelsea if the London club are willing to sell him this summer.

Rafa tried to get Tammy to the club on loan early last season (summer 2017), but due to some incompetence in our transfer process Newcastle missed out.

He eventually went to Swansea City who took him on loan for the season – which turned out to be a relegation season for the south Wales club.

Abraham has been on loan in the Championship this season to Aston Villa and has scored 25 goals in 37 Championship appearances – an excellent return.

21-year-old Tammy Abraham – in action for the England U21 side

He is the second top scorer in Championship with Teemu Pukki of Norwich above him with 29 goals.

Dwight Gaule on loan at West Brom has 23 goals in 39 appearances in the Championship this season.

Rafa rates this player and the top-class manager would bring the very best out of a player who is still only 21-years-old,  with 2 full caps for England.

For the England U21 side, Tammy was a star player with 8 goals in 22 appearances for England at that level.

Newcastle want a permanent transfer, rather than a loan deal, presumably becasue if Abraham plays well at Newcastle, his transfer price will go up.

Rafa’s more willing to buy the player first and then bring the very best out of him.

Chelsea, however, are under a transfer ban this summer, and the London side may want to keep him on board as a safety first move – since they cannot bring in new players.

£30M is being mentioned as a potential fee for Abraham.

That’s big money for Newcastle but from what we’ve seen of Abraham and given he is still young and has a lot to learn he may be worth that figure.

But Rafa would then need to work his magic to bring the best out of the youngster and make the England International into one of the best strikers in England.

What do you think?

Would like to see him play for us
The problem is we won’t spend the money needed to get him, that and the way we do business is so slow and protracted it makes it unlikely to get anyone anybody else is bidding for

I have to admit I’ve never quite seen the appeal of Abraham – I’m not sure is this just regurgitating old stories or Rafa is still keen?

So Rafas going to hang around after the game.
    For what.
    A bus.
    A chat with Mitro.
Wait until it’s after 6pm to get cheap travel on the tube ?
Certainly won’t be in the expectation that Ashley turns up with boxes of cold pizza for a team bonding session in the changing room.

“Meet me on the corner when the lights are coming on and I’ll be there” as the great Roderick Clements wrote.
    Ashley won’t be there.
He’ll be stuck with his heid in a fireplace.

    Abraham for £30m
    Petez for £25m

    Go figure.
Is there a London surcharge for transfer fees ?
Or does Abramovic want his money back ?

This is getting tedious and this season hasn’t even finished.

    It’s quite simple
Perez is going to Italy or Spain , unless it’s
Barcelona or Real Madrid , they won’t compete with PL
    fees.

Anyone out there who knows anything about UK planning law so I don’t have to look it up? Lazy I know….

Who is entitled to object to planning applications? Do you have to be resident within a certain distance in order to have the right?

Aesthetics tend not to carry much weight
If it can be proven to impact on your matchday experience
    you have a valid case
    but will it ?
You can still see the game
and have access to the stadium.
The best line to follow would be to get residents close to the ground involved
their opinion will carry more weight than someone who is there for 2 hours
once a fortnight in the footy season

I would reckon Rondon would be the better signing; Rondon + Tammy the ideal signing; but, as we live in MA’s world, (unless he clinches a sale) we will have neither Rondon, Tammy Nor Rafa in place come k.o. in August. Yikes!

I like Rondon but he’s so slow! Good to be called on from the bench for 20 minutes or so if we can afford that (hardly likely with Ashley). Rafa likes counterattacking with pace so I don’t see Rondon leading the line next season as a starter. To take advantage of Miggy’s speed on the break we need a far more pacey CF.

If Rafa stays we will be a much faster team next season. High speed on the counter creates far more opportunities. That’s what we’ll build with Rafa. We don’t want a carthorse attack in the Prem.
