Alan Shearer Reacts To Biggest Win Of The Season As Magpies Rout Fulham 4-0

Alan Shearer was happy enough after a brilliant Newcastle performance in London when we dismantled Fulham 4-0 this afternoon.

Jonjo Shelvey was making a rare start and he put  Newcastle 1-0 up after only 9 minutes and then it was that man Perez again who made it 2-0 and Newcastle were in the driver’s seat.

And then in the second half, Fabian Schar got his 4th goal of the season to make it 3-0.

And at the death, it was appropriate that the brilliant Salomon Rondon got his 12th  goal of the season and his 11th in the Premier League – the most ever in one season.

Ugh now onto the transfer merry go round

Question I want to pose to the blog is
What positions do we think we need to strengthen? What kinds of players should we be signing?

    Imo we need to sign
-rondon and Rafa permanently, beyond that I think we need
-another Perez/Almiron type forward to push them both and give us more options,
-a Xabi Alonso type central midfielder who could play alongside longstaff (and push Hayden),
-a right wing back because Manquillo and Yedlin just aren’t up to scratch

Mayyybe a left wing back as well who has Ritchie’s attacking ability and is more solid defensively as well (although Ritchie has improved on that front), and another creative midfielder/attacker wouldn’t go amiss

    What does the blog think?

Well done Rafa & all the Lads. Brilliant way to finish the season – resounding win. And Liverpool have still not won the Premier League just like NUFC!
Now then Ashley – stop messing around with 12 month contracts unless you are really going to sell the club and give Rafa a proper “War Chest” so that he can really show you what he can do with our Club.

What positions do we think we need to strengthen?
    The owner position first.
    MD position second.

I didn’t see Ashley stick a V up. Not surprising, he’s done it before.

    Fabian Schar cost…

    1/5 of a Yerry Mina
    1/3 of a Callum Chambers
    1/10 of a Shkodran Mustafi

    Brilliant signing.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez: “It was a great game. The early goal helped us a bit when they were pressing. We had the experience on the counter attack. The third goal killed the game. Credit to them because they were pushing then.

“I am really proud of this group of players and the fans were amazing as well. “Finish 13th is important for everyone. It is a good position and I am really pleased.

“Now is the time to enjoy and the fans go back happy. I am really proud. This group of players, even in bad times, never had their heads down they were still believing and working hard.”

On his own future: “I said before that I have seen the potential but now is the time to enjoy.”

On meeting Mike Ashley to discuss his future: “We meet hopefully this week and see where we are. We have plenty of time to enjoy, I have been very clear about the potential of this club.”

It’s going to take money. A lot of money. But the first thing that needs addressing if he stays is Ritchie’s obsession with slapping his teammates about the head.

Stat: The last time Newcastle won away in the top flight on the last day of the season was in 1976. The title was won by Liverpool, beating Wolves on the final day.

What a finish to the season. Absolutely brilliant. In contrast behind the scenes looks the same as usual with Ashley, abysmal. He has no idea how to build on this. What good is a one year extension? It will lead to nothing but more indecision. I’m not sure how we get out of this. Does Ashley give in and say “well done Rafa, I’ll give you what you want now”? Not likely. He is a control freak and he wants it his way. All the best to Rafa and his family. He’s done everything possible for the club.

“A quick mention for Spennymoor Town, who are involved in the National League North play-off final against Chorley this afternoon – at the time of writing they have just come back from behind in extra time to make it 1-1 heading into the final five minutes, after regulation time finished 0-0. Win or lose, it has been a historic season for The Moors.

Finally, a word on the downfall of Berwick Rangers – hammered 4-0 away to Highland League side Cove Rangers in their relegation play-off first leg yesterday, they now face the prospect of dropping out of the Scottish Leagues entirely after a 70-year stay.“

Unfortunately Geordie Two you’ve hit the nail on the head…

Ashley is in total control and there’s nothing we can do to change it.

Contract negotiations will fizzle out over the next few weeks and Rafa will be gone

Perez is off by the looks of things…just have to watch Rolando’s twitter link as the players and managers salute the fans

Frustrating as foot..but hey nothing nothing changes in the world of NUFC

Another great end to Season match.

On the official Twitter feed posted earlier noticed Rafa catching up with Perez and giving him a hug and whispered in his ear ” How can you leave this behind -I can’t !! so same again next season”.

At least I think that’s what he was saying 🙂
