Dwight Gayle Gutted – Thanks West Brom Fans – What’s His Future Now?

Dwight Gayle had another terrific goalscoring season for West Brom on loan when he scored 23 goals in a total of 38 league games for them.

Dwight has a habit of scoring goals in the Championship and for Newcastle in our Championship winning seasons two years ago he scored 23 goals in just 32 league games.

So in those two seasons combined he scored 46 goals in 70 league games – that’s not too bad at all.

And he will be a big player for any Championship club for next season whose aim is to get promoted to the Premier League.

Dwight Gayle scoring in the first leg against Aston Villa

Dwight was right to be gutted for the fans when the Baggies were knocked out of the Championship playoffs last night when they lost to Aston Villa 4-3 on penalties in the second leg.

Dwight was sent off in the first leg (WBA lost it 2-1 with two late goals) and was suspended for last night’s game and the final at Wembley should the Baggies have made it through last night.

Now it’s an open question what will happen with Dwight and whether Rafa Benitez – always assuming he stays at Newcastle – will want him back for the first team squad next season.

Gayle’s a much better player now than when we signed him from Crystal Palace for £10M three years ago when he dropped down a division to play for Rafa.

Our guess is the manager will use Dwight in part exchange for Salomon Rondon who can now be bought for £16.5M.

Mike Ashley refused to pay that last summer because he’s a miser and thinks players 30 years old or more can’t play the game anymore.

We’d love to see Salomon Rondon sign permanently for Newcastle – very soon – he’s been our Player of the Season.

Welcome back Dwight, don’t unlace your boots just yet, you’re going to be an instrumental part of the Rondon deal.

Rondon has proved he is PL standard. Dwight has not. Lets hope we can get Rondon for about £4-£5m including Dwight Gayle as part exchange

It would be in both clubs best interest to do a straight swap with Rondon going to Newcastle and Gayle going to West Brom. Seems incredibly obvious to me

I would take losing Gayle as part of a deal for Rondon + £5million they would be getting a consistent proven goal scorer, best in the division in fact, a goal every 122 minutes. Only Abraham comes close a goal every 129 minutes, mind he has played 427 minutes longer for his 2 extra goals. Rondon ‘s done well for us last season but he’s never going to be a an Andy Cole or a Shearer, you expect midfielders to hit 11 goals a season not your main striker. However if Perez leaves I would be inclined to keep Gayle as I think Rondon and Gayle up front would be quite a partnership.
