Talented Free Agent Linked With Newcastle – But We Have Competition

The 35 times capped 29-year-old Greek International Andreas Samaris is again being linked with Newcastle today.

Rafa Benitez was first interested in Samaris of Benfica two years ago, but a move has not materialized.

However, Newcastle made every effort in January to bring the holding midfielder to the club.

Presumably, Andreas, who is very experienced and had an excellent second half of the season in Portugal could be a replacement for Isaac Hayden, if the 24-year-old leaves Newcastle this summer.

32-year-old Mo Diame is a free agent this summer and is almost certain to leave the club after three years onboard.

Samaris is a free agent, and even though Benfica blocked any move for him from Newcastle in January with a new contract offer for Samaris – no agreement has been reached on that.

Andreas Samaris – free agent turns 30 next month

Turkish media outlet Fotomac is reporting that Newcastle are now one of four clubs after the free agent.

They include Galatasaray, and Premier League clubs West Ham and Wolves,

It remains to be seen if Rafa will get a free run at Samaris since he will be 30 in next month and Ashley likes to sign players 26 and younger.

But here’s a case where clubs will be making offers for the player now – with Galatasaray reported to be ready to offer him a huge wage packet to move to Turkey.

Wonder what Lee Charnley will do about that?

We have to remember that Rafa will also have other midfield targets, but Samaris comes at a decent price.

Comments welcome.

Player is linked with WHU like all the other players we are apparently linked with!

+ Rafa has not signed a new contract so all this is just pure speculation, do you honestly think we are going after players when Rafa hasn’t signed up?

I’m trying to remember the last time I read about a player we are linked with that wasn’t being linked with WHU!?

Turkish wages are not generally that massive
The top players rarely get over €3m pa
Two things make playing in Turkey more appealing
On top of their salaries – appearance money between
10/20 Euros is regularly paid per game plus an across
the board tax rate of 19.5% can make playing there attractive

”But what annoyed me was that we made a God of him pre season when we didn’t get near staying up”
Thumbs down for bringing up old posts but this is the type of lies and twisting of facts Munster is so dead against. Nowhere near staying up???

Aye, bring on the thumbs down so everyone can see what people think of Jail’s
constant childish sniping blatantly (sic) done to hide his poor knowledge
of anything to do with footy.

There was two points in it, the mackems were unbelievably lucky against Chelsea and Everton just lay down, if we’d played Swansea and Palace at the beginning of his run we would have more than likely stayed up and if he’d been broought in two games earlier to face Bmouth and Stoke then we would have 100% stayed up.

I also feel it would be advantageous to have a Thumbs up – Thumbs down system!

Perhaps it would help to make some posters see they are out of order in what they post!

As well as agreeing with positive comments.

    🙂

    Hello Guys!

I am a Benfica Fan and also a newcastle united fan. So I know this player very well.

He is a fantastic professional and player, but, its impossible for newcastle. He just signed a 4 year deal in Benfica (The deal is done and anounced).
