Mike Ashley Happy And Buzzing In Dressing Room Last Sunday

Ayoze Perez has talked today about wanting to keep Rafa Benitez at the club past this summer, when his contract runs out on June 30th.

It seems like intense negotiations have started in London today between Rafa, Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley about a new long term deal for Rafa and the talks could continue into tomorrow.

Rafa’s contract needs to be sorted out quickly because the manager wants to keep players like Salomon Rondon, Isaac Hayden, and Ayoze Perez at Newcastle and that’s difficult for him when he currently doesn’t know if he’ll be staying.

But it’s always been difficult for the Newcastle hierarchy to move with any speed at all – they are much more comfortable moving at a snail’s pace, but then nothing gets done.

Perez also has said the owner Mike Ashley was buzzing in the dressing room last Sunday.

Ashley was delighted with the way the season ended with such a resounding 4-0 win at Craven Cottage against Fulham – a team that had won three of their previous four matches.

Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley – negotiating today with Mr. Benitez

This is what Ayoze Perez said in the Chronicle today when asked about keeping Rafa Benitez on Tyneside:

“That’s the idea.” “We all want him to stay as it’s something good for the club.”

“We became a better club from the day he arrived.” “We have to make sure we keep him because the team and the club can keep growing up.”

“That’s what we have done throughout the last few seasons.”

“I said hello and he (Mike Ashley) was happy and buzzing about the result and the way we ended the season.”

“He said thank you to everybody for the effort this season.” “It’s something good from him.”

“I am very happy because we (Ayoze and Rondon) made 25 goals between us and that is a great amount.”

“We just want to help the team score goals.” “It’s always nice to see him score too.” “He has been unbelievable for us.”

“I am happy for him.”

We are hoping to hear some news on how the negotiations are going fairly soon.

But maybe it would be better if nothing happens and then the club announces on their website sometime tomorrow, that Rafa is staying for five years.

That would signal a time for a huge celebration for our fans, and it would also be a massive relief!

Comments welcome.

Of course the salary package has to be right, and the size of the club and fan base and stadium all meet Rafa’s needs, but I imagine the primary motivation behind this apparent real desire to manage us is to be the guy that finally leads us to that elusive trophy. That’s the real prize surely for a manager of his stature and the feather in his cap he’d love to have.

Of course he was buzzing but for the wrong reasons. He was buzzing because he has another year in the Premiership with SD advertising and no personal financial input. I doubt he even thinks any of this is good or the club

Rondon rumours of wolves are worrisome and I know Everton and West Ham have been keeping tabs on him this season.

He may want to come here but the longer it takes, the more it might seem he will be at West Brom. Leaves it more likelier that he’ll go to whoever is wanting him if we drag our feet.

“We want him to be the manager 110 per cent, he’s very good at what he does, and he’s a straight talking guy – we like that. He’d be the perfect appointment”

Winks been injured most of the season.

I know a certain someone who is more deserving, bias or not.

Ben Arfa, even at his age, would be great, but I don’t think he’s a Rafa type player. And he’s on an enormous salary.

    Live with the memories.

There’s a new hba somewhere out there. We’ll see him next year 😉

Very dour tough match at Portsmouth, the Sunderland is standing in the crowd with the fans, good on him.

Can’t see our owner ever doing that.

Mmmm, Beermonkey, you’re asking odd questions and that plus your seeming inability to remember how to spell Lascelles’ name suggests you’re about ready for a move eastward along the coast.

We, the good folk of Walmington-on-Sea are always happy to welcome newcomers, as long as they’re of good character. There’s a special welcome for the intelligent in particular sophisticated ladies if they’ve got their own teeth. Cartoon, I’m sure you’ll be ok but Jane, don’t waste your time.

Just voted for Schaars goal in the Carling GOS poll.

Although I thought the one where he dribbled into the area and passed the ball into the corner of the net was even better.
