Ayoze Perez has talked today about wanting to keep Rafa Benitez at the club past this summer, when his contract runs out on June 30th.
It seems like intense negotiations have started in London today between Rafa, Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley about a new long term deal for Rafa and the talks could continue into tomorrow.
Rafa’s contract needs to be sorted out quickly because the manager wants to keep players like Salomon Rondon, Isaac Hayden, and Ayoze Perez at Newcastle and that’s difficult for him when he currently doesn’t know if he’ll be staying.
But it’s always been difficult for the Newcastle hierarchy to move with any speed at all – they are much more comfortable moving at a snail’s pace, but then nothing gets done.
Perez also has said the owner Mike Ashley was buzzing in the dressing room last Sunday.
Ashley was delighted with the way the season ended with such a resounding 4-0 win at Craven Cottage against Fulham – a team that had won three of their previous four matches.
Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley – negotiating today with Mr. Benitez
This is what Ayoze Perez said in the Chronicle today when asked about keeping Rafa Benitez on Tyneside:
“That’s the idea.” “We all want him to stay as it’s something good for the club.”
“We became a better club from the day he arrived.” “We have to make sure we keep him because the team and the club can keep growing up.”
“That’s what we have done throughout the last few seasons.”
“I said hello and he (Mike Ashley) was happy and buzzing about the result and the way we ended the season.”
“He said thank you to everybody for the effort this season.” “It’s something good from him.”
“I am very happy because we (Ayoze and Rondon) made 25 goals between us and that is a great amount.”
“We just want to help the team score goals.” “It’s always nice to see him score too.” “He has been unbelievable for us.”
“I am happy for him.”
We are hoping to hear some news on how the negotiations are going fairly soon.
But maybe it would be better if nothing happens and then the club announces on their website sometime tomorrow, that Rafa is staying for five years.
That would signal a time for a huge celebration for our fans, and it would also be a massive relief!
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Sunlun couldn’t sell all their tickets for either leg. ‘They’re here, they’re there, they’re every effing where, empty seats, empty seats…’
Yet they’ll go to Wembley… Proper fans or what? Or what!!!! 🙂

Comment #44Looking at some past videos, when Rafa met ashley and agreed to stay on when we won the championship, reported there and then by Keith Downie and Jim white that Rafa is getting about 70-75m+ and even up to 100m for the premier league.
Hmm. Sounds familiar.
Then lee Charnley earlier when accounts were published said past 2 years, we’ve had £120m spent over 2 years. We can see for ourselves how far this actually goes and what it entails.
Now reports that if Rafa stays on he’ll get 100m over 2 years plus whatever he gets from sales, although in increments.
I know Rafa isn’t focussed on solely money for transfers but I personally don’t see much difference if this is the case. It can be praised as wow, Ashley giving Rafa 100m but overall, it much difference to what has gone on past couple seasons.

Comment #46I have to say no matter how desperately bored I get I would rather watch me Toffos melt on the dashboard than endure a mackems slogfest. I just want to read in passing how tragically close they came to promotion.

Its absolutely terrible ! It’s a contest to see which player can hit the ground first for the free kick.
Portsmouth have been terrible, I think we could get 11 bloggers on here that would put on a better performance .

What’s the point in signing players now? We don’t have a league game until August, total waste of wages getting them in before then.

Comment #60Pity To See Sunlan win but losing in the final would be fun. Re the talks, I can only imagine that Ashley wud get involved if decent progress has been made so hopefully we can be optimistic of progress.

Comment #61Panda if you think that you can get away with racist comments about my family speaking only Irish at home and other anti Irish references about war you have another thing coming to you. I don’t give a monkeys whether you or anyone else think I hate rafa when I think the guy is perfect for us, and have said it numerous times, but this is not acceptable and I’ll take the matter up with Ed if it continues.

Comment #63Lesh………… Let’s hope the Wembley final doesn’t clash with a rally of multi coloured, pierced , hydrophobic unhygienic socialists on one of those Loony Left Antifa rallies as there will be massive confusion for the Mackems as to which mob to follow.

Sunlun’s only employer of any significance, Nissan a Japanese company that uses it’s Sunlun plant to make the cars it exports to Europe, is based in a community that votes to cut its ties with Europe? Ffs.
Like all working class folk who supported Brexit, they’re so gullible they still want to be out of work when Nissan closes. Look at Swindon and Honda. Ffs wake up man, it’s not a joke!

Comment #71Lesh, the mackems were first past the post to shoot themselves in the foot, thus covering themselves in redneck glory. But obviously they’ll have about three new hospitals if it goes through. Honest 🙂
