After talks were conducted between Mike Ashley, Lee Charnley, and Rafa Benitez at a secret location in London yesterday, there is news from Sky Sports’ Keith Downie that the negotiations are likely to continue for at least another 48 hours.
That ould be good news as it seems both parties are anxious to get to something that is acceptable to both parties and Rafa can then sign a deal – hopefully, longer than three years – to stay on at Newcastle.
But as far as we can tell from news about yesterday’ discussions, not too much progress was made.
Rafa Benitez on the phone – trying to sign Messi – he could be too old
The positive articles out today about the discussions didn’t seem to be concentrating on yesterday’s meeting but more about what local reporters were writing during the day, which was reasonably positive stuff.
We are starting to get just a little worried about how much more Rafa can take of this from Mike Ashley.
But they will be locked together in a room for three days, and that will be good as it tends to form a relationship between the participants – and it’s all about Newcastle’s future too.
Mike Ashley should be interested in that.
Rafa will get to know Mike Ashley a lot better and vice versa.
That has to be a good thing.
This is what Keith Downie has tweeted today.
