Wolves are very interested in signing Salomon Rondon for £16.5M, and there have been reports that Everton may also be interested.
And there is a report in the Northern Echo today that West Ham are ready to trigger Rondon’s release clause in his West Brom contract.
This is all good for Salomon Rondon because he will end up in the Premier League for next season – almost certainly.
He has had a great season at Newcastle, and it’s no wonder other clubs want him in their lineup.
But it is not good for Newcastle, who are going about their transfer business in the usual way – at a snail’s pace – and that isn’t good enough and shows no real ambition from the owner.
Rafa wants other players brought in quickly this summer and that too is unlikely to happen the way Ashley operates.
Salamon Rondon – hopefully, will wait for Newcastle coming in?
Wonder what Rafa’s thinking about these long drawn out talks?
We suspect Newcastle have the first shot (so to speak) at signing Rondon and we know he is keen to sign for the club so hopefully we are in communication with him so he can hold steady.
Hold steady until when?
Until Mike Ashley stops messing Rafa around and gives him most of what he wants.
Even if Rafa signs and Ashley refuses to sign Rondon – that would be a negative signal.
Maybe those two events don’t go together, and if Ashley does not sign Rondon for £16.5M, then Rafa could be on his way.
While we think that will not happen, there doesn’t seem to be much change in Ashley’s attitude from what we can tell from the reports on the meetings taking place.
What do you think?
