There are reports that Real Madrid, in what will be a busy transfer window for the Madrid giants, are lining up a €60M deal for Eintracht Frankfurt superstar forward Luka Jovic.
Luka Jovic’s value has skyrocketed this season after scoring 27 goals for the Bundesliga club. He was on loan from Benfica to start the season before Frankfurt wisely exercised their €7.2M option to buy in April.
There is another Red Star Belgrade academy product who is about to break out big time. He is striker Dejan Joveljic who has just broken through into the Red Star first team.
Dejan Joveljic – that celebration looks very familiar
Over his last seven appearances in the Serbian SuperLiga, Joveljic has scored five goals to go with one assist. He has made six of his eight starts this season in just his past eight appearances.
The young center-forward will turn 20 in August and has a host of Bundesliga clubs after him. His contract runs until 2023, but Red Star are a selling club though they did reject a fee of €3M from Spanish club FC Cadiz last year.
With few players from their academy breaking through and a limited transfer budget, Newcastle need to get creative in finding top level talent.
The SuperLiga is a top league to mine for up and coming Serbian stars.
Players like Andrija Zivkovic, Luka Jovic, and Nikola Milenkovic have all been plucked in the past few years for low fees, or for next to nothing in the case of Zivkovic. Though that was a unique instance.
While work permits are always an issue with unestablished Serbian players coming to England, Dejan Joveljic still might be worth the risk as he is not first team ready yet and could be loaned out.
A fee of around £5M may be able to tempt Red Star into selling one of their prized youngsters.
While this is an unlikely scenario for the risk-averse Newcastle club, we would love to see some creativity come out of the Newcastle board with their transfers.
