The local (Wolverhampton) Express & Star is reporting today that Salomon Rondon, who spent the season on loan at Newcastle, is interested in moving to Wolves.
Wolves tried to sign the player in January but couldn’t break his season loan deal at Newcastle.
But now Wolves are moving quickly to try to sign up the talented Venezuelan striker with Newcastle in gridlock as Mike Ashley, and Rafa Benitez are in negotiation on Rafa’s potential new contract.
As usual at Newcastle, it’s taking a lot longer than it should do.
The striker has a £16.5M release clause in his West Brom contract which Wolves are very willing to meet and which Newcastle refused to pay last summer – even though Rafa wanted him signed permanently.
The same could be true of Ashley this summer – and he is likely to refuse to pay out £16.5M for a player who will be 30 in September.
Salomon Rondon – great season at Newcastle – but Ashley hesitating – as usual
We’ll have wait and see but time is now of the essence with Rondon – and Benitez.
Rondon scored 12 goals for Newcastle last season with all but one coming in the Premier League.
And the 29-year-old also had 7 assists.
Wolves finished 7th in the Premier League in their first season back, and they are a more ambitious club than the Ashley-owned Newcastle.
They see Salomon as real competition for their 27-year-old 71 times capped Mexican International striker Raul Jimenez, who also had a good season.
He scored 17 goals in 44 total appearances for Wolves – with 12 goals coming in the Premier League.
At some point, Newcastle will have to start moving quickly – on everything – and the sooner, the better.

Comment #3The contract needs to well thought out and Ashley proof
Rushing it just to hang on to one 30 year old player is a
bit daft.
