Update On Rafa- Ashley Meetings – Talks Likely To Drag On – Rondon Deal In Doubt

The Northern Echo has a report out today on the Rafa – Mike Ashley talks after the two met late last week in London for face to face talks.

The talks are said to be progressing, and the two are communication by email and telephone with Rafa back at his family home in the Wirral, Cheshire.

But there are no specific plans for another face to face meeting.

We reported yesterday that Mike Ashley is available to talk to Rafa and he would fly to Liverpool to do that – if it’s something Rafa requests explicitly.

The club will be doing nothing at all in the transfer window until things are sorted out with Benitez – with no signings made and no players sold.

Rafa Benitez – is that a joke Mike – no – £22M is not enough this summer

And the longer this goes, the worse it could become – with Newcastle well known to move at a snail’s pace in any negotiations – including transfers.

We have to hope that Salomon Rondon is patient becasue he would like to stay at Newcastle, but he also wants his future sorted out quickly.

Who can blame him?

That could be achieved if he joined Wolves or West Ham because they are both ready to trigger the release clause of 16,5M in his contract.

They are both ambitious clubs and above Newcastle in the league table, and it would be a decent move for the 29-year-old.

Newcastle are not, and therefore the chances that we could miss out on Rafa’s number one choice this summer are increasing.

Comments welcome.

All the Northern Echo is doing is summarising what is generally thought to be the case – I see nothing new here apart from a bit of guesswork.

As for Ashley flying to see Rafa – I really don’t think so. The next we’ll hear about anything concrete is when there’s a press conference announced a t SJP.

Incidentally does anyone know the number of ashLIE’s helichopter? That can easily be tracked…

“Newcastle well known to move at a snail’s pace in any negotiations – including transfers.”

Isn’t this what the contract talks will be dealing with ?
