One player who will not be coming to Newcastle this summer is Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris. We had reported a few weeks ago about how Benfica and Samaris were at a stalemate in their contract talks.
Andreas Samaris – finally signed new deal with Benfica
Last week Benfica sent out a tweet confirming that Samaris has at last signed his new contract which will run until 2023

This development is not too surprising as the player desperately wanted to remain at Benfica. Being close to 30, he wanted to get the best deal possible in what could be his final chance at a big contract.
It seems that Benfica and Samaris were able to work out a satisfactory conclusion to their ongoing contract tussle.
While it is really difficult to discern if any of the endless mass of targets are real, this one did have some ring of truth in it.
We kind of felt that he was a player Rafa rated and though he did not fit the criteria, the thought of getting a quality player for a reduced fee is always intriguing.
We can now cross the name of Andreas Samaris off the speculative list of targets.
But we can still dream that his teammate Rafa Silva is on there somewhere. And maybe Joao Felix as well.
