Seven Things Newcastle Must Do Quickly – Once Rafa Agrees to Stay

We are hoping Rafa will stay on Tyneside like millions of other Newcastle fans scattered all around the world.

And rumors are coming out of Italy today that Rafa has indeed agreed to stay at Newcastle United.

Let’s hope that rumor is valid, and if so we can all start celebrating.

Rafa Benitez – certainly looks happy after the great 4-0 win at Craven Cottage

But here are things Newcastle must start to do once Rafa signs – and they have to show it’s not the old Newcastle and move quickly, decisively and with significant urgency.

  1. Hold a press conference with Rafa and hopefully Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley to show solidarity at the club
  2. Sign Salomon Rondon for his release clause of £16.5M from West Brom
  3. Offer a new and improved contract to young playmaker and local lad Sean Longstaff
  4. Offer a new and improved deal to Ayoze Perez to ensure he stays onboard
  5. Offer a new and improved contract to Matt Ritchie – the life and soul of the current Newcastle team – becasue he deserves it
  6. Immediately start trying to sign players we need this summer
  7. Start selling players we don’t need to reduce the wage bill and make room in the squad
  8. Start talking about how great we can become in two years time and smash Manchester City

We have likely missed some things off the list – like sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona on the cheap: any others you can think of?

Once Rafa stays, we believe this summer could be the most exciting transfer window for Newcastle since Mike Ashley first arrived at the club in the summer of 2007.
