News from Italy that Newcastle have been offered Inter Milan’s Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario, but we’re always very wary of being offered players from other clubs.
Why do they want to sell them?
The website interlive.it is claiming an “exclusive” today that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has been offered the player, since it’s known that Newcastle will be looking for central midfielders this summer.
Everton are also reported to be interested in the player, who is available for around €20M – £17.5M.
WE’re not sure if Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is interested in taking him.
Heres an extract from the report – translated into English:
“According to information gathered exclusively by Interlive.it, the Portuguese has recently been proposed to the ‘Magpies’ who are looking for new reinforcements for the upcoming season.”
“The aim of raising the target bar and the class’ 93 could represent a valid profile for their future programs.”
Mario is 26 and has played in central midfield at Inter Milan since he moved there from Sporting Lisbon three years ago.
And he was on loan at West Ham last year.
He has played for all the Portuguese youth side and 42 times for the full Portuguese side.
It really depends on whether Rafa Benitez rates him as to whether he could arrive at Newcastle – he does seem the right age for Mike Ashley.
But maybe we can get better value for £17.5M?
There do seem to be some class players available in the transfer window this summer.
So if only Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez can come to an agreement soon on Rafa’s contract we could be going after our targets with some urgency.
That would be a nice change from previous years.
