At the end of a report in Team Talk about Dwight Gayle’s wages being a stumbling block for Leeds United, a pair of the Whites’ players were mentioned as being of interest to Newcastle.
Kalvin Phillips and Jack Clarke are the two players specifically mentioned though the report does allude to possible interest in more than just those two.
Surely if Newcastle are interested in any Leeds youngsters, they must be aware of left-back prodigy Leif Davis. He was born in Newcastle after all.
Kalvin Phillips-excellent young Leeds midfielder
Kalvin Phillips is a central midfielder who has made 89 appearances for Leeds over the past two seasons.
This past season he has played a more defensive role and actually filled in at centre-back when Leeds captain Liam cooper was out injured from early December through to January.
He is also heavily linked with newly promoted Norwich and Bournemouth.
The Bournemouth link is interesting as Phillips and young winger Jack Clarke were both linked with Bournemouth in April.
Jack Clarke-exciting young winger
Jack Clarke is an excellent young prospect who has broken through to the Leeds first team this past season making 25 appearances. While only starting in 5 of those games, he did manage 2 goals and 2 assists.
Clarke is still very young at 18 years of age. He is right-footed and can play on either wing.
With the disappointing finish to their promotion campaign, Leeds will want to hold on to these two key players as Marcelo Bielsa’s side make another promotion push next year.
With both players being from the area as well as being Leeds academy products, it is uncertain if they would want to leave the Yorkshire club.
These are definitely exciting young players who we like the look of. We will have to wait and see if anything comes of these links but Leeds certainly have some young talent in their side.
We also like Leif Davis and hope that Newcastle are interested in the young left back as well.

Comment #1So another decent player that is from Newcastle that we missed out on ?!
This is why we need to sort out the academy we should never be missing out on a player from around the local area fair enough if they aren’t going to break into our first team but we should still be able to develop them for a career in the game and possibly sell on fees in the future!

Comment #3Do feel a bit sorry for Gayle being shifted about as a makeweight every season for players in the championship!
He might decide he wants a settled life for his family so might want to go back down south on a permanent transfer ?

Comment #5Jib your knowledge of politics is just as bad as Lesh. Posting duff/invented info.
The Brexit Treasurer is called Phillip Basey and the jailbird you said was the treasurer is called George Cottrell.
Lesh mentioned the European Social Fund would/could provide grants for the NUFC Academy – what a complete load of made up bollix. It is just not used to provide money for privately owned football clubs. Lesh – you need to read the Rules. More made up bollix.
Post Thursday when Nige sweeps the board I hope in the best interests of UK democracy the loons will apologise for their lies in general, lying rants and trying to deceive bloggers.

So, basically George Cottrell has no connection to the Brexit Party.

Comment #7Lesh………… There is no hope for the likes of you and your Neo Marxist brethren.
Our biggest worry as citizens of this fine nation, much more so than Brexit and Farage and by far the biggest threat to this country’s economy and security goes by the name of Jeremy Corbyn.
This is a football blog and used to discuss football and in particular NUFC. We don’t need members of the hard left coming on here to try and propagate support for an ideology that is a proven failure.

The guy with the sunglasses on walking front of Farage
(when he was all shook up) who quickly darted out of camera view
was George Cottrell.

We can all see that it’s nearly always Lesh that starts the political comments and even though he is clearly ill – equipped intellectually to handle these discussions it is not fair that he is allowed to proceed with his ridiculous agenda unchallenged.

Comment #13With Rafa keen on 2 new full backs, can anyone see Yedlin being sold this summer?
I can see Rafa upgrading at RB/RWB with Manquillo staying as the back up.
The two Leeds lads are bother very good players, Clarke might not be quite ready for the Prem yet but Phillips from what i’ve seen could be the perfect replacement for Hayden.
Also what happened to Victor Fernandez, he seemed to be in the first team mix last summer and I can’t remember seeing him mentioned once this season, so assume he’s been out injured.

Comment #14For arguments sake, let’s say interest in mata is genuine and serious. That’s not actually a signing I’d pursue. Used to be a great player, still is but he doesn’t have the legs to fit in the side as we need.
If we were going to build a possession based side then 100% go for it, but we are not and I don’t think we are looking to go down that route either.

Fernandez has had a lot of injuries but towards the end of the season, to my knowledge he was training again and training with first team squad too as some youngsters get the opportunity to do so under Rafa.
If we are signing another full back/wing back on the right side then yedlin or manquillo will have to go. Not sure which like.

Maybe some swop deals maybe not, will not know till the man gets signed to a new deal. Simple as that.
As for all talking about politics on the wrong site.

Comment #30Yeah, would Mata fit in a side that demands its front three press so intently. Maybe in place of Jon Jo, in competition with Ki alongside either Hayden or Longstaff. Rafa would surely have some interest in a player of that experience, pedigree and maturity. Could he drop back into a deeper lying playmaker role in the last two or three years of such a top career and run the game for us?

Among other things, the European Social Fund can be used to contribute towards training and education opportunities. It does not, nor did I say it did, offer 100% of any costs attached to an approved project and funding is generally dependent on funding provided by partners whether local authorities and/ or the private sector. Never did I say that the ESF would fund an academy.
