Exclusive Report – Rafa Benitez Zones In On Long-Term Target

There’s news today that if Rafa Benitez agrees to stay at Newcastle, he wants to sign 25-year-old Joe Bryan of Fulham, who played against us in the final game of the season when we won 4-0 at Craven Cottage.

It’s an exclusive from Football Insider, and he’s a player we were interested in back in the summer of 2017 when he was still at Bristol City.

He had impressed Rafa in the Championship games we played against Bristol City in that previous promotion season and was one of the best full backs playing in the Championship.

Joe is a left-back signed for Fulham last August for £6M, but now if Rafa is really after the player, Joe may find playing for Newcastle United in the Premier under Rafa Benitez hard to turn down.

The left-back can also play at wing-back, and a left wing-back is near the top of Rafa’s priorities this summer.

Fulham left-back Joe Bryan – a long term target of Rafa Benitez at Newcastle

Last season Joe played 30 times in all competitions for Fulham, but of course, they fell behind the pack and were finally relegated in second bottom place earlier this month.

The London club will be wanting to keep Joe so they can mount an immediate challenge to come straight back up to the Premier League next season.

A Newcastle source has told Football insider that Rafa wants the player and the northeast club are willing to test Fulham’s resolve to keep the left back in London.

We’ve been after Bryan for some time now, and for £6M he seems to be a good value for money having already had some experience in the Premier League last season.

His wages will not likely be too high either, so Mike Ashley may even approve the deal.

While at Bristol City for six full seasons he played 230 times for the Robins with 21 goals and 29 assists, so he’s already played a lot of games in his career.

What do you think about this?

I can see a swop / money deal in the works, Gayle / Murphy etc.
But this is means Jack Shite until the manager get signed, we are linked with nearly everyone it seems.

Come on Mike, this it now turning into a Monty python sketch, this Manager is dead, no he’s not, he’s sleeping.

Joe Bryan was one of the easiest to predict linked players in this transfer window.

Why did we not just sign him last summer when he was available for 6 million?

Really annoyed me how he went to Fulham he had nearly agreed to go to Villa before he went to them!

So we could certainly have got him

Not nufc related but NE football – the rumours about Boro interested in John Terry are quite intriguing – I thought Gibson would go for Chris Hughton!

I’ve noticed a few giving the optimistic view that the reason we’ve heard nowt is that a takeover is in motion.

Ever thought of the pessimistic view that Rafa is under a gagging clause not to announce him leaving until his contract is up and Ashley is running down the clock on the transfer window.
