Player Recruited Last Summer Was Born To Play For Newcastle – What A Signing!

Fabian Schar had an excellent season for us as the £3M signing from Deportivo finally got into the side in early November and helped us in our first win of the season against Watford.

That was a massive win for the club, and then the Swiss International was a first-team regular and seemed to get better as the season went on.

Schar also and ended up as the club’s third highest scorer after scoring four good goals – some of them vital.

And the 27-year-old finished second in our voting for Player of The Season behind on-loan striker Salomon Rondon.

Fabian Schar scores against Burnley – what a fabulous strike!

This is what Schar has said in the Chronicle today:

“I had a quite hard start, like the whole team. I think the whole team struggled a lot the first 10 games, but then we started getting points and doing a good job over the whole season.

“I think, for me and the team, the second part was quite good, and we can be proud of the end. For me, it was also a quite good season when I look now.”

“I enjoy playing in the Premier League, especially for this club and these amazing fans. I look forward to the next year.”

“It was the perfect end, I think, for us.” “To get one position above at the end, and to give the fans something, was the perfect game for us.”

“It was a quite good day for us.”

“It’s great for us, for the whole team, to get this support every game.

“At home games or away, they’re always there, and they give us some really good support. That’s what we need.”

He’s a favorite player of ours, and if Rafa can make a few more signings like Fabian, we’ll be in (very) good shape.

Wonder how the negotiations are dragging on with owner Mike Ashley.

Dragging on probably.

🙂

He just has the right mentality to play for a club like us he doesn’t freeze under pressure unfortunately its exactly the type of attributes that “bigger” clubs look for in a player!

There does seem to be a shortage of defenders for the top six to up grade with. Nufc need to offer some ambition in order to retain the good players we have and attract other possible gems.

    He’s gone if there’s a 20m offer which I expect shortly.

If Charnley accepts an offer for Schar while Rafa is still trying to sort out his own situation, that could be the last straw for the manager. He sets a lot of store by his defence, and through a few shrewd buys has assembled a capable and solid defensive unit.

    Welcome Chicago
As you say the defense is nailed on
I expect Rafa to build our attack around Might
    To that end
Keep Perez and Big Ron and upgrade Kenedy and
    Atsu

    The games Schar played
    24 games: W12, D5, L7 41pts
We won half the games he played
If we had that form all season we’d have got 65 points.

    The games he didn’t play.
    14 games: won 0, drew 4, lost 10
If we had that form all season we’d have got 11 points.

My opinion is Schar was easily our best player last season and we could get £30-50m for him. Play playing defenders are in demand with the big clubs. But if Rafa wanted to sell him, I’d trust Rafa to find another great defender. After all Lejuenes is just as good, he’s just injured a lot.

    The next Mike Williamson,
To say Lejuene is injured a lot is a bit misleading, he’s been desperately unlucky with his injuries, unlike Gayle who has dodgy hamstrings.

    NY Mag,
I’m not sure, it’s getting footin ridiculous how long it’s taking to sort out, normally a manager is interviewed, he impresses the interviewer or vise versa and job done, how is it taking so long to convince Ashley that Rafa knows best, taking in to account that he’s saved him tens of millions of pounds over the last three years.

Love Schar, unfortunately another season like this and the “big” clubs will start to circle and MA won’t hesitate to cash in. Hopefully Ashley sells up or at least gives Rafa what he needs to keep the core together. Only a few more pieces and I think this squad can shoot up the table

Jail I was drinking San Miguel in the Philippines last week at about 90p a bottle. They have a variety of bottles over there rather than the one we usually get in Britain. I’d always thought it was a Mexican beer.

Don’t think Rafa is impressed with Gayle anyway, which makes it a moot point anyway.
For too long we’ve gone with emergency back up players. Personally, I don’t want Gayle as back up, I want another striker pushing Rondon – or whoever we end up with – for his place in the first team. Stuff paying Gayle 50k a week for use when Rondon’s injured, we want someone to fight for every place in the team. That’s what Rafa means by competing. You can’t compete with eleven back up players. They need to fight for a place in the team. Not one player should feel he’s guaranteed a starting place. That’s where competing begins – in the squad.

    Jail,

Good point, I have no idea why it is taking so long.
I’m hoping it’s because of the legalities in drawing up the contract rather than any fundamental disagreement.

Sorry this may be a stupid question, but do we know for a fact that they are actually meeting to discuss a contact atm? Last confirmation I heard was Rafa right before the end of the season saying he would take a few days holiday and then they would sort it out. Media has been stating that they are talking but they also make things up as they go along. Just curious if maybe they only recently started discussing or if they are not even at that point yet. Idk, just food for thought and I may be completely off base

As far as first teamers go, we’re not that far off having a team to compete for cups, knowing relegation isn’t a threat. But injuries kill that off. We need a squad of good players and that won’t happen overnight. Rafa knows this. He’s probably having to explain everything most of us take for granted, in simple terms to Ashley – who hasn’t got a clue. He won’t rush it, he wants him to understand what he wants, why he wants it and how to go about getting it, without touching Ashley’s precious wallpaper. It might take time, but if he gets through eventually, job well done.

    Repost from ages ago.

I’ve noticed a few giving the optimistic view that the reason we’ve heard nowt is that a takeover is in motion.

Ever thought of the pessimistic view that Rafa is under a gagging clause not to announce him leaving until his contract is up and Ashley is running down the clock on the transfer window

    MA drags everything out
Remember if he signs a manager soon he will need another like to cover his total lack of investment
Same as last year, and the one before

He probably wants to keep the sale lie fresh for January

So we made a shade over £120m last season & had the 7th most shown games on TV (after the top six placed teams) with 19 live games, ahead of Everton on 18, and one place behind Chelsea and Arsenal on 25. More income than the 2 teams immediately above us, Palace and Watford, and for 18/19 a single place was worth around £2m extra for the club.

San Miguel Beer was first produced by La Fabrica de Cerveza de San Miguel, an upstart brewery in the heart of Manila that began its operations in 1890. It received the Royal Grant from the Spanish king to brew beer in the Philippines, then a colony of Spain.

    Jib,
He’s been trying to sign Rafa for months on terms he knows that are unacceptable, he’s known what Rafa wants for at least six weeks officially and for around two years now via Churnley, Ashley is the only one with the power to get him signed permanently, if he was prepared to give Rafa what he is reasonably asking for it would have been signed months ago.

Two pretty powerful characters clashing. This was never going to be quick. If it had been quick it would’ve been one side caving in and neither are likely to do that. Expect compromise. Go in asking for more than you need and’ settle’ for what you initially wanted.
Rafa is going to explain everything to the daft lad because that daft lad hasn’t a clue – even after over a decade.
Both will fight for every inch they have to give. It’ll happen when it happens and Rafa signs the deal he’s happy with – or walks away. No news is good news hopefully.
