Why Ashley Will Not Sell Newcastle – If He Can Sign Rafa To Long-Term Deal

If Mike Ashley manages to sign Rafa Benitez to a long term deal to stay at Newcastle, then that tells us some things about the owner.

He will have offered Rafa enough of the things he wants to make Newcastle into a club that once again can fight for a place in Europe and not keep trying to avoid relegation all the time.

That will be a huge relief for our fans and a change for the better too.

We cannot see Rafa agreeing to stay without Ashley having given him much of what he has asked for to remain onboard.

If the owner is not flexible, then it is still possible that the disaster scenario is possible – Rafa does not sign a new deal – but that’s not probable

Mike Ashley will likely stay – to see how Rafa Benitez fares with decent financial backing

But once Mike Ashley has Rafa signed for at least three years, we can’t see him too anxious to then sell the club.

This summer transfer window should be a good one (and an exciting one for fans) with Rafa having money to spend to bring in some good players.

There are also indications he is after some bargain buys again – like last summer (Schar and Ki) and free agents – including Joan Mata from Manchester United.

Rafa managed Juan at Chelsea and Mata is a Rafa Benitez type of player -0 he is a skilled footballer who works his socks of in games.

If Rafa is successful next season, and say we finish in the top eight, then the chances of going even higher the next season will be good.

And why would Mike Ashley want to sell the Newcastle club if we could be in the top six in 2022 and the club could bring in a lot more than £300M on the open market?

The owner will want to stay with Newcastle to see how things turn out.

The billionaire could even double his money for Newcastle in three short years.

What do you think?

Who’s Joan Mata? Is that Juan’s older sister?

Ashley will sell as soon as someone is prepared to meet his sale price. Sadly, that changes more often than my socks so trying to meet it is guesswork.

With Rafa in place, however, if we start to climb the League, then it may become more likely, I guess…..

Why would signing Rafa alter your sale of the club ?
He could give Rafa the earth ,it wouldn’t matter as the consequences would be on the new owner wouldn’t it

I can actually see Rafa signing a deal and having a good window followed by Ashley then trying to sell us again in January and making excuses for not spending at which point Rafa will have another decision to make!

One can only suspect that none of the top clubs have approached Rafa. Why would any manager worth his salt put up with all this nonsense. Rafa must be desperate for the cash. Nobody can explain why it takes weeks to agree a contract for one man. Any clues???

But Rafa can call them off at any time. He controls events now as he can walk away. Why doesnt he? Mega salary keeping him interested???

Lets be honest here, whenever/if someone offers what Ashley wants then he will sell. Whether thats tomorrow or in 3 years time. Rafa has no bearing on this whats so ever.
If we look at the final league table, we finished 12 points behind Wolves in 7th. Lets face it, the top 6 is way out of our reach so 7th is the highest we can achieve. We all thought we had a poor season but, considering we had a terrible start and on a number of occasions threw points away in injury time, on another day with a little luck we could have been very close to Wolves.
Ashley isn’t stupid, he knows this. He also knows that throwing £100m at a team does not guarantee success, look at Fulham. So he is providing as much cash as the club can afford i.e. £50m + sales and he is assuming a top manager like Rafa can tweek the squad here and there and still complete for that 7th place.
I am ok with that actually because I think if Rafa has £50m + sales at his disposal then he will build a team to really compete for that 7th place and I also think Rafa will be happy with that.
Just you watch, within a week everything will be agreed because Ashley wants it and so does Rafa because where else can he go other than NUFC? the top 6 are unavailable and he wants to stay in the UK, so he knows NUFC are the next biggest club after the top 6. Keep the faith all will end in everyone being happy.
