As we all await any real news on the vital talks ongoing between owner Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez the Chronicle is reporting today that West Ham are interested in two of our central midfield players, who may both leave the club this summer.
Isaac Hayden handed in a transfer request last summer, and he still wants to move south to be closer to his fiance and daughter – so we suppose he will leave the club this summer.
But we’d really still like to see him stay if there’s any way to work out his family situation – but maybe not.
Isaac Hayden – we still hope we can keep him
West Ham United are interested in both Isaac and Jonjo Shelvey who may no longer be a regular starter at Newcastle with the rapid emergence of young Sean Longstaff last season.
West Ham wanted to sign Jonjo in January for £20M, but they may now turn their attention to Hayden who has been outstanding for us since December.
There could be considerable changes in Newcastle’s engine room this summer with Mo Diame becoming a free agent who will also leave the club this summer.
But both Hayden’s and Shelvey’s future are in limbo until we know the outcome of the contract talks that have been going on for
five years nine days since last Thursday.
There is great interest in both central midfielders with Brighton and even Aston Villa interested in Hayden.
We assume the location of the club is vital so a West Ham move would suit Hayden’s requirements – as would Brighton – where he would be an instant starter in the team.
But as we said earlier things are in limbo once again at Newcastle.
At some point, Mike Ashley has to make a decision on Rafa, so things can get moving again.
It looks like any quick signings this summer are another pipe dream for the club.
