Rafa Not Deadlocked On Transfer Funds – This Is More Likely The Major Disagreement

We wrote a report last night on the 90 min report that said there was a deadlock with Newcastle becasue Rafa wanted £100M each season for transfer funds.

And he wanted that clause written into his contract and the £100M did not include funds he can get from selling players.

We doubt that’s an accurate portrayal of what’s happening.

One way to look at it is how little Rafa has had to spend ver the last two seasons, and it’s minuscule.

If Rafa gets £50M a year plus funds he can get selling players that’s so much more than he’s been given over the last two years in the Premier League.

He will definitely want cast-iron guarantees on some aspects of his contract because it seems that Ashley reneged on some of his promises to Rafa over the last couple of years.

Rafa did not get every penny the club generates  – as one example of that.

Rafa Benitez – remains in talks with Mike Ashley

Heres what we did in the last two summer transfer windows.

Here’s what we did last summer.

And here’s what we did in the summer of 2017 when Rafa was really annoyed.

The net spend over those last two summer transfer windows was a profit of just over £8M.

The figures don’t include loan deals of players coming and going, and they would tend to cancel each other out in any case.

Ashley did relent last January to bring in Miguel Almiron for up to £21M, so that was good news but probably an attempt by the owner to get Rafa to sign on this summer.

We don’t think it’s the transfer funds that is the big problem with the long-running negotiations.

Rafa wants to have control of the transfer funds to use as he sees fit.

And he wants to spend it on players over 30 if he thinks that’s good for the team.

Mike Ashley does not want to give up that level of control on the finances.

That’s closer to what the deadlock is about.

What do you think?

Not a good outcome for the heed.
Gateshead have been suspended from the National League and refused a licence for next season.
The fifth-tier club have breached the league’s rules on financial reporting and permitted loans, as well as defaulting on football creditors. At a disciplinary hearing The Heed were found guilty of failing to obtain security of tenure over their ground.
The club have also been fined £3,500 and docked nine points from this season meaning they drop from ninth to 17th.
    What’s going on at Gateshead?
Council evict Gateshead from International Stadium
If the club appeal and are unsuccessful, they face the prospect of a drop of at least two divisions, with the sanction also applying to the National League North – the tier below.

    Curious tweet from:

Side note. Underwhelming St James’ Park friendly again.

Not one of the big Ligue 1 sides. Debuchy and Cabella – whose brief time at SJP was pretty much anonymous – currently play for St Etienne.

Les Verts have a huge history – Platini, etc. & they finished 4th this season. I thought it was a strange comment.
