Positive Noises On Contract Talks Coming From Both Sides

Sky Sports reporter Keith Downey was part of a Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast last Friday, and he gave an update on Rafa’s drawn-out negotiations which we reported on earlier today.

The gist of the talk was that progress was being made in the negotiations and that Rafa wants many changes made in the way Newcastle have done things under Mike Ashley for twelve years.

If this all goes through and Rafa signs a new deal we have to believe that Ashley has agreed to make the majority of changes Rafa has asked for.

But as Downey points out, Newcastle always do things laboriously slowly – and this is no exception.

The three major negotiators – Ashley, Rafa, and Charnley
One looks puzzled, one seems fed up, the other looks smug

Newcastle make snails look like the fastest things on the planet.

That has to change.

The piece by Keith Downey is generally favorable to Rafa signing.

This is what Downie told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast:

“So there’s a lot of paperwork and a lot of toing and froing to go through.”

“As we sit here, Friday lunch-time, the contract still isn’t signed.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes into next week. The noises I’m hearing are positive ones from inside the club and Rafa’s side.”

“But I suppose with Newcastle and the way they are and the way things have gone in the past, no-one will actually believe that until they see it in writing.”

“And he’s standing inside St James’ Park with a scarf above his head.”

Let’s hope we get some positive closure on Rafa early next week.

This thing has gone on far too long.

Comments welcome.

I can’t think of any other club that has the same management structure as NUFC, ie. owner, one director, and manager.

Appears Rafa is doing the role of 10,

    1/ The manager.

2/ The 1st team Coach re fitness and improving players.

3/ head of the scout team and vetting players.

4/ head of communications re interviews, press etc. ( you never see the owner or Charnley facing the press.

    5/ interact with supporters

6/ supporting and attending charitable organisations.

7/ revamping of the academic and overseeing the youth teams, also attending said matches.

8/ interacting with possible signings paving the way for them to sign.

9/ attending sport direct functions ie. The opening of a shop in Ireland.

10/ dealing with the shit thrown at him by the owner and Charnley.

It is said that Rafa works 12 hours a day, I don’t know how he does it, reflecting back on Big Sam how many helpers did he have, the psychiatrist, a food analysis, he had an army of helpers.

Rafa is literally running the club on his own. For what purpose? I tell you why. the supporters.

From your comment about toon22 talking to himself all of last night are you inferring that NY Mag and myself are alts of him?

Suppose that makes a change of being accused of being an alt of Jib.

Martoon; It’s true that; allowing Rafa’s contract to run down doesn’t make sense. However everything Ashley does in relation to our club is nonsensical. Therefore it is sensible to suggest that the least sensible outcome is the most sensible suggestion. I hope that makes sense.

Oh, poor Jim. Spent three years KNOWING Rafa wouldn’t sign, now attacks Rafa personally because Rafa, has, more loyalty to a club he hardly knows than someone who claims – emphasis on claims – to have been a loyal fan all his life. ( Except when boycotting the club, which is a regular occurrence).
You know, Ashley’s going nowhere, so why bother with anything to do with NUFC? You dislike the club. Dislike the loyalty of fans who embarrass you. Dislike the manager who, because he doesn’t agree with you, is, now open for personal insult.
Why bother? Got nobody to argue with at home because you’ve driven them all away already?
It’s not going to change massively until Ashley sells up. That’s football. Not many people have a billion quid to make the club worthy of your support, but we’ll get by without it 🙂 It’s life Jim, but not as we know it. Grow up. We can’t always have what we want in life. Support the club or don’t. Nobody gives a toss Jim. You’ve made it clear you’re not going back until Ashley leaves – and probably only until the new owner disagrees with the almighty Jim. So what more have you got to say that we aren’t already bored with?
You hate us. Because you hate Ashley. That’s very grown up of you, you do realise that?
Take that anger, turn it into passion, and do something positive with it. You’ll be amazed what you could achieve with it.

you hit the nail on the head my friend. He understands football and knows how hard it is to support a team like Newcastle. Not when we’re top of the table and fighting for glory, but when we’re at the other end of the spectrum and struggling to stay in the PL, or struggling to get back into it. He appreciates the support and wants to reward it by giving us a cup final to attend – and by cup final I don’t mean the Special Needs cup Sunlun still failed to win – I mean a, real cup final. At which point all those boycotting the club will do everything they possibly can to take tickets off those who have remained loyal. Funny old game innit? 🙂

OFD buckle up mate, it’s the close season for football. That generally means accusations of being sheep, multiples and shills are the points of the day 🙂
Get the old tin helmut from the second world war out from under the stairs and strap on the bullet proof vest. 🙂
This tit for tat is merely the prelude for all out verbal warfare. It’ll get a lot worse before it gets better again.
Anybody keeping count on players we’re being linked with? Maybe that could replace the bingo – how many will we be linked to this week, with bonus points for getting the player right. 🙂
I’m thinking we’ll being in three or four first team players, with a good amount more for the academy and another two or three squad players required for cover – although they’ll be players Rafa expects to push for a first team place anyway.
Not expecting anything too drastic, not whilst Ashley remains in charge, just steady improvement season by season and a domestic cup – at least one – whilst Rafa stays.
That’s more than we’ve won for over fifty years so it’s long overdue. Rafa’s a winner. A fact nobody can deny. He’s not going to want to leave before doing the same here. Something every fan should appreciate and get behind.

Jail, hope I’m wrong, but still to be convinced by Tammy. The vast majority of his goals have once again been tap ins from a few yards out.
Again, nothing but credit to him for being there – proves he’s a natural goalscorer because you can’t teach that knack. My concern is simply the lack of goals coming from other than sitters.
He scored twenty-odd for Bristol, all tap ins, then failed for Swansea. He’s done the same for Villa. The difference being, you get chances for tap ins in lower leagues. Those chances are few and far between in the PL and to his credit, when they came to him for Swansea, he generally took them.
He needs to add scoring goals from beyond twelve yards to that great knack he has, of being in the right place at the right time for tap ins.
He’s got the tools. He’s a big lad and quite quick, but defences are so much better in the PL that tap ins are a rarity.
Obviously Rafa knows this. If he is going for him – it’s still an if now – he must’ve seen something he thinks he can improve re scoring from other than tap ins. That you can coach into a player, because its, down to technique and intelligence. When to shoot and how to shoot. He’s already got the thing you can’t coach – that knack of being in the right place at the right time – and he’s improved since his time a Bristol City, so I’m more open to the idea of signing him now than I was when he went to Swansea.
Will he take being second choice to Rondon? And he won’t get 100k a week either – he’ll have to dump that notion. As, always, time will tell. Right now, he’s just another on the list of linked players. 🙂

i put it on here after the last home game that the guy (he’s an estate agent) that sits behind me was telling any one who would listen that 2 of Rafa’s Spanish coaches have renewed the lease on there rented homes,so i’m a lot more confident than i was,
    we just need that announcement.

No chance Ashley could be counting the clock down??.
Not to worry there are plenty of diehards who will pay Ashley and Pards wannabe to keep Ashleys retail business in robust health.
30 more years of Ashley. He will only leave in a box.

Yes it’s like international breaks on roids here.
As for signings just hope whoever we sign it’s proper signings .full on . We bought you! your here to play for us !
Unless it’s an option to buy I do see the point of bringing along bench warmers for the top six .
Just a thought ..if all the rest of the league refused to sign loanees from the top 4 greedy bastards it would level the playing field no end .it would also put an end to the constant ( mostly agent driven ) young talent poaching too .
