Former Great Scottish Striker – Newcastle Takeover Would Be Fantastic

The news of yesterday about Newcastle was stunning.

There was hardly a whisper of a takeover and according to the Sun, signed contracts are now with the Premier League waiting for their approval.

Potential new owner Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed al-Nahyan seems to have moved quickly, efficiently and under the radar screen.

If this deal can be closed quickly, it will have been almost a perfect acquisition, and of course, our fans are ecstatic about what this all means for the future.

Rafa will be given money to spend, and he (and Newcastle) should be up with the big boys soon.

56-year-old Ally McCoist played for Rangers 451 times with 251 goals from 1983 to 1998, and he has also managed Rangers from 2011 through 2014.

Ally McCoist – Newcastle takeover would be fantastic

He is in demand now as a pundit and appears on talkSPORT often, and he has talked about the possible acquisition of Newcastle and he seems highly delighted if the deal goes through.

This is what Ally said on talkSPORT early this morning:

“It would be fantastic, wouldn’t it?.”

“There’s been serious unrest there for some time between the supporters and the owner, that’s been very very clear.”

“I just hope this time they do get their wish, Newcastle.”

“I really like the coach Rafael Benitez, he’s clearly very well respected and an excellent coach.”

“And the Newcastle supporters love him.”

“And I would love to see him get the opportunity to increase the talent within that squad, because I do think they could move up the table and do really, really well.”

Well said Ally – now we have to complete the takeover just as soon as possible.

And course it may take some time to finish high up in the league, but it won’t be for want of trying or even because we have a miserly owner who doesn’t like to spend the club’s money.

Things could be the polar opposite of what they have been like over the last 12 years with Mike Ashley.

We should have ambition and money available at the club. and of course an experienced world-class manager.

Comments welcome.

Shouldn’t there be a transfer bargo whilst a club is being taking over?

Same with Perez, no incoming and outgoings unless its changed and only outgoings are allowed, but then who gets the £? Surely losing a player worth as much as Perez comes of the sales of assets?

    So many questions.

Nezza. The money for Perez would be payed to Newcastle. Presumably in installments. Not to Ashley.

I think the new owners would love Rafa and his player knowledge, unlike every other manager that buy players for their names Rafa buys players to improve the squad.

Rafa likes the type who work hard for the team, imagine a team full of Nolans and Ritchies 🙂

    A question if that’s ok
If, some clever cloggs toon supporter made a few thousand pieces of Arab headgear ( sorry forgot official name) and made them with black/white stripes instead of all white, would the potential new owners be offended or see it as a bit of humour?
    Cheers.

Jib……… Aye you’re probably right re. other interested parties. This Sheikh is steaming in to get the deal done ahead of any other sniffers quickly if he is genuine. He’s certainly making statements of intent which would leave him looking foolish if it’s all bollox.

If it’s true that Perez is subject to an offer from Spurs and if the Club’s open to it, it suggests that Rondon’s not going to be signed and Ashley’s willing to sell a player Rafa has a lot of time for and irrespective of what Rafa thinks!

Speaking of facts, Jib’s back posting so Google’s gonna get some welly after a few Jib-free days!

Sitc, don’t worry our new Highness will hose Ashley out of it. No barbs, no tentacles. All still hanging in there. Let’s ignore all scouse commentary for now. In fact let’s ignore scousers in general as much as possible.

lesh, that’s an awful lot of ‘ifs’ and supposition. I reckon Rafa’s plans and Ashley’s influence have potentially just changed.

Someone asked yesterday assuming the club sale goes through, would people still want to sign Rondon. Sorry, I don’t remember who.

I think Rafa is probably wondering the exact same thing, among a million and one others. I don’t think we’ll know what the scale of ambition of the club will be going forward, though I do hope if Rafa still wants Rondon that he gets him.

I’d take him, but hope that we could get a massive star also. Rondon has skills and attributes which other strikers can only dream of, he would be a great permanent addition to the squad and a fantastic mentor for Sorensen

We all know the frog is a martyr to misery and total negativity and I like many just skip his posts to escape from it.
However, there is the horrible nagging doubt that Ash will do any of the following:-

    1) Offend the Arabs or their religion (again!).
    2) Move the goalposts with price (again!)
    3) Want to keep his residuals (advertising etc)

It was my birthday on Sunday and I’ve just been in this wonderful bubble over the last couple of days just praying it doesn’t burst

Thanks for clearing things up this morning, I’d tried after reading the Wiki pages.

From what’s been said and now you letting us know theres a holiday soon I’d expect everything to be sorted and presented to the prem by Friday.

Then the prem can chew the fat whilst everyone on your side can chill for a week ready to head into battle after their hols.

Keep us up to date if you can buddy, the stuff you’ll hear is bound to be more reliable than the press Chinese whispers.

If suddenly we do have a large amount of cash available for transfers I would think at this point Rafa’s targets would still be the same, I’m sure the amount of time gone into the scouting wouldn’t be wasted. Perhaps a marquee signing or two, I think a slowish build to the squad would be more desirable in the long term. We need to keep the attitude of players wanting to play for the club rather than just for the money

I feel what you’re saying and had the exact thoughts yesterday when the deal started to look realistic.

To me Ashley has to shit or he’ll never get on the pot again.

To many times hes cried wolf with no outcome, would anybody entertain Ashley regarding a sale of nufc if he screwed this sale up now?

It’s going to be sold now, I dont think Ashley has a way out, the club confirmed the Zayed group statement which said a deal was agreed.

The press pundits commentators and fans would crucify Ashley if he blew it, he would have a leg to stand on with many and would get shit from every direction.

IrishMagpie, the advertising benefits Ashley indirectly as the largest shareholder of Sports Direct.

There are other revenue streams (catering, corkage etc) which Ashley is directly tapped into via Mash Holdings which give him direct profit.

I think I’d rather he had some kind of non-exclusive agreement to keep some advertising at the ground which allowed the club to advertise other brands at full market rate, as long as it meant he would take his foot off our neck with other commercial revenue streams.

Ideally, he’d have no influence at all and would just be gone. Not sure how realistic that is, though. An Arab sheikh should have the financial clout to make it worth his while, though….

And interestingly, if you look at the pic i posted above, When Saqr bin Zayed Al Nahyan was killed (by his nephews in 1928), it would appear that that side of the family went to live in Dubai hence the Dubai connection.

So Dubai2020 as our sponsor is an astute guess.

Micky, is ‘our’ Sheikh closely related to Sheikh Khalifa bin Sultan, the current Abu Dhabi ruler?

Looks like from your pic that Sheikh Khalifa and Sheikh Zayed are / were brothers and Sheikh Khalid (our guy) is therefore the nephew of the current ruler of Abu Dhabi. Is that right?

Is Sheikh Khalid a potential successor as the Emir of Abu Dhabi?
