Former Great Scottish Striker – Newcastle Takeover Would Be Fantastic

The news of yesterday about Newcastle was stunning.

There was hardly a whisper of a takeover and according to the Sun, signed contracts are now with the Premier League waiting for their approval.

Potential new owner Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed al-Nahyan seems to have moved quickly, efficiently and under the radar screen.

If this deal can be closed quickly, it will have been almost a perfect acquisition, and of course, our fans are ecstatic about what this all means for the future.

Rafa will be given money to spend, and he (and Newcastle) should be up with the big boys soon.

56-year-old Ally McCoist played for Rangers 451 times with 251 goals from 1983 to 1998, and he has also managed Rangers from 2011 through 2014.

Ally McCoist – Newcastle takeover would be fantastic

He is in demand now as a pundit and appears on talkSPORT often, and he has talked about the possible acquisition of Newcastle and he seems highly delighted if the deal goes through.

This is what Ally said on talkSPORT early this morning:

“It would be fantastic, wouldn’t it?.”

“There’s been serious unrest there for some time between the supporters and the owner, that’s been very very clear.”

“I just hope this time they do get their wish, Newcastle.”

“I really like the coach Rafael Benitez, he’s clearly very well respected and an excellent coach.”

“And the Newcastle supporters love him.”

“And I would love to see him get the opportunity to increase the talent within that squad, because I do think they could move up the table and do really, really well.”

Well said Ally – now we have to complete the takeover just as soon as possible.

And course it may take some time to finish high up in the league, but it won’t be for want of trying or even because we have a miserly owner who doesn’t like to spend the club’s money.

Things could be the polar opposite of what they have been like over the last 12 years with Mike Ashley.

We should have ambition and money available at the club. and of course an experienced world-class manager.

Comments welcome.

Jail from many threads back, just get your ticket for next season as soon as you can. If this doesnt come off and anybody gives you stick, just ignore them and tell them where to go, obviously they are not worth it. Any games you decide against going to, sure you could sell them off, but lets be positive, what a season and seasons we have ahead of us. Top 6 without a doubt next season and then who knows, maybe champions within 3 seasons or so with Rafa in charge and a decent budget

If we could have had his 1st choice signings last 2 seasons I’m sure we would easily be in top 6 as it is now

Isn’t there a guy from Newcastle living in Dubai who wears the full traditional outfit but hes had it made in black n white stripes with the club Crest.

Saw the pictures maybe in the chron a few years back.

Rotonda -yes, Ashley scares me too. Telegraph also saying Ashley could be a sticking point – not sure why because it’s supposedly the asking price he said he wanted but then I did see his lips move which usually means he’s lying.

Maybe Rafa’s thinking has changed but bear in mind that Ashley’s with us until he’s gone. He’s unlikely to relax his age policy and if he and Rafa are still at loggerheads, then Ashley’s likely to sell Perez just to show Rafa who’s boss. And more importantly, he’s not going to release big money until he’s absolutely certain he’s selling the club – when £350m or whatever’s placed in escrow along with any fees are underwritten by the potential buyer

Why are we not doing more to keep Perez? .I have said a few times on here that he was lazy but over the last 6 months he has stuffed my words down my throat , he now looks a quality player , the fact that Spurs want him confirms that , he could be even better with better quality players around him. I would hate to see his transfer value triple a couple of seasons after we sold him.

So, Micky, from what you’ve said before, Arabic businessmen will likely leave negotiations on a transaction to a lower-ranked person, or even a third-party outsider like Amanda Staveley, so if the negotiations fail they do not suffer a loss of prestige.

As this negotiation is very publicly linked to Sheikh Khalid, is it possible that he is representing another party, a more senior family member, for eg, using his investment group as a cover?

Not trying to be greedy, just wondering who the actual final owner could be.

There’ll definitely be at least 20k on the long term deal Martoon. Do you think the new owners will honour the deals made by SD? Our agreement was extended to the 22/23 season, I wonder if they’ll honour any agreement already in place?
What do you think Micky? You ever come across a situation like this before?

He’s probably toes up on a beach somewhere at the moment anyway, with a drink with an umbrella and a copy of Don Quixote.

Don’t believe anything you read in the press. That definitely includes players, coming and going.
That said, Perez was talking about leaving so if he’s not happy here, let him go. One of our strengths has been having eleven players on the pitch who want to be here and wear the shirt. If you have even one not happy, you separate him from the first team squad so he doesn’t start spreading it. We want players here who want to be here, not players unhappy and moaning constantly. What we don’t want is another set of mercenaries signing on because they smell money.

I am days off today so helping my mate with a bit of decking in Cramlington. Its absolutely pouring with rain…..Normally I would be disgruntled – but we are both sitting in the Jeep, smiling away, I am on here, he is on Twitter, discussing the craic ! All the ‘no idea news’…

Amazing what a little bit of good news does for morale.

I would even say good morning to Toon22

Rob, well it’s possible but who knows. If you look at his profile and see that he sits on Dubai’s Government Councils (not Abu Dhabi’s). http://www.binzayed.com/chairman'sprofile.htm

So I suppose they could be but I’d be surprised if he’s a stalking horse so to speak, that’s not the Arab way – it’s a bit like being cuckold.

Micky, how do they feel about deals in place – will they honour those deals? Talking about the deals in place for ST until 22/23 season. Are they likely to honour these deals or rip em up. Not that bothered, had a good run, just wondering where we stand IF this, deal happens.

Bobbybee @51 – I must admit from a purely selfish point of view the ST fixed deal is one of the things I wondered about when I heard the takeover news. I’m not sure if new owners would have to honour them or not because there is bound to be an increased demand for ST’s.
