Exclusive – Rafa Wants To Sign Long-Term Talented Target This Summer

We’ve noticed that when Rafa rates a player, he keeps going after them until he can sign them.

The first time Rafa wanted to sign Irish International James McCarthy of Everton was way back in January of 2017 when Rafa wanted to buy the recently departed Andros Townsend and James McCarthy.

But Mike Ashley refused to sanction any deal thinking the squad was good enough to be promoted the following May.

He was right, but this is the way Ashley has run the club – spending the least amount of money possible while trying to keep Newcastle as a Premier League club.

It hasn’t worked for 12 years, but he still keeps doing it and proving he should not be the owner of a Premier League club.

Since then the 28-year-old Glaswegian suffered a broken leg on January 20 in an attempt to block a shot on goal by Salomon Rondon.

Newcastle want Everton’s James McCarthy this summer

It resulted in the striker accidentally breaking McCarthy’s leg.

The 41 times capped Republic of Ireland International was ruled out for the rest of the 2017–2018 season and Rondon was in deep distress on the field.

According to an exclusive in TEAMtalk today Rafa wants to sign James this summer.

McCarthy is now back to full fitness after an injury-ridden time at Everton but Rafa is good with players that seem to get injuries, and we may be able to get the very talented McCarthy for a decent fee.

And James will have something to prove at Newcastle, so that’s always good – Rafa will help him do just that.

McCarthy wants to leave Everton, with manager Marco Silva not having James in his plans for the Goodison Park club.

In fact, McCarthy has hardly played over the last two seasons for the Toffees (7 times in all and only once last season) so it’s a bit of a risk.

But McCarthy has always been an accomplished player ever since he came into the Premier League with Wigan back in 2009.

If Ashley is still the owner, it may be difficult for Rafa to persuade him to pay maybe £15M (it could be less than that) for a player who turns 30 in September.

If we have new owners, then it’s likely they will trust Rafa’s judgment on transfer targets this summer.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

We might see a new club badge if the sale goes through. Ashley might hold the copyright of the existing image.

Local journalists probably don’t have the funds to do real investigative work. It seems to me that most of them just rehash other peoples work. Then the internet gets hold of the story, and every connotation possible is put out there.

On the verge of a new age with responsible, considerate and let’s face it, well-off new owners. We can go after the new players Rafa wants as his 1st choice, not MA’s “take it or leave it” players. We can have a team of great players who want to play for Newcastle, who will give us exciting football and “worked for” success. We won’t have to worry whether exciting prospects like Lobby are going to be bartered for and sold against Rafa’s wishes.
I don’t thinkl NUFC supporters would be comfortable or happy with “bought” success. Wouldn’t want a side full of spoilt temperamental strutting prima donnas who never crack a smile,(yes, I’m an oldie) who cost the earth just because we could get them. Don’t want to be a team that buys up other teams promising players just to get them off the market. Want Newcastle to be great and appreciated, not vilified and disrespected. This is my dream, and Rafa’s the man to do it. Am I being naive ?

It’s brilliant just how much the journos have been shown up for exactly what they are, headline hunting at any cost, completely out of the know, print something because anything is better than nothing, so long as the views and clicks come in.

The latest is the epitome of their idiocy, let’s see how many run with it… The claim that surely NDAs have been signed and the new owners are saying a lot… therefore this sounds suspicious.

Helloooooo, if all is signed and sealed and you’re just waiting for delivery the NDAs are over. Idiots.

    @ Reilly

Luke Edwards, Craig Hope and Matt Lawton do seem to be the first to come out with something that implies that this takeover is not going ahead. The latest comment from the Daily Mail is:

    Craig Hope
    ?Verified account @CraigHope_DM
    23m23 minutes ago

NEW: We understand PL have NOT received anything from Bin Zayed Group to start ‘owners & directors test’, despite claims. ‘Heads of agreement’ was submitted, but this merely informs of price agreed. Pressure on NUFC to clarify position (w/@Matt_Lawton_DM)

This seems strange when the EPL confirmed that they do not comment on these matters and it is up to the club to confirm. Is this KBA at work?

I don’t want to be unkind, but how many games has Andy Carroll played in the last two years? Look to the young players for the future and hopefully a few good quality purchases.

Why would the Premier League talk to journalists about a confidential matter. I don’t believe a word of it. Probably a question asked and “no comment” given, and then they make of it what they will. Typical journalists trick.

I still think player purchases are not going to be the expensive. It will be players like Wesley Moares, Thiago Maia, Valentin Rosier, Jarrod Bowen etc. Players that will cost about the same as Miggy.

    Chelsea Paradox:

“If a crystal ball of Maurizio Sarri’s season in August had predicted a third-placed finish, the League Cup final only being lost on penalties to the team that completed the domestic clean sweep and an appearance in a major European final, surely this would have been deemed acceptable?

“If he had achieved this at other clubs there would be talk of a contract extension, not of a parting of the ways.”

And it looks like his sale predictions are happening as well.

That Craig Hope is doing my head in, he is contradicting everything that BZG have said. He is either going to look like a complete idiot with no credibility or a well informed genius. How is he getting the information from the PL when no-one else can. I’m sure that yesterday he was saying no documents had been submitted to the PL. ow he is saying a Heads or agreement document has been submitted.
    Make your mind up kidda.

They would say that though wouldn’t they, makes it look like the Arabs have got one over/back on the fat twat that took the piss out of them years ago.
