Is This The Reason For Ashley’s Silence?

Has Mike Ashley signed a non-disclosure agreement, and is that the reason he has not spoken about the possible takeover from the Bin Zayed group?

Mike Ashley– communication is not one of his finer qualities

According to a report in the Chronicle, Mike Ashley has signed a non-disclosure agreement and that is why he is so tight-lipped on any potential deal.

Though, as we all know, Mike Ashley does not need any reason to not speak to Newcastle fans. He has shown that he is very capable of being incommunicado over his past twelve years as owner of Newcastle United.

If this news of a non-disclosure agreement is true, it would give a reasonable explanation of why the Bin Zayed group only became so vocal after the news of the deal was reported by the Sun.

Prior to that, the group was very tight-lipped as Mike Ashley is currently now. The news entering the public square via the Sun could have relieved either party, or one party, of the non-disclosure agreement as the source of the information was now public and not, theoretically, exposed by any member of the agreement.

If the news becomes public and is not disclosed by any member of the agreement, then neither party has broken the non-disclosure agreement. They are then free to comment on the public information.

However, this is all conjecture as there are many forms of a non-disclosure agreement and they are often specific to the matter at hand. So without knowing the details of the agreement, it is just speculation at this point.

It is very telling though, that BZG is doing all of the talking. One can take this as a positive or as a negative. If we remember, it was Amanda Stavely who courted the fans via the press and appearances at Newcastle games when, as it turned out, she could not secure the funds to purchase the club.

This public display could have led Ashley to demand on a non-disclosure agreement with the Bin Zayed group to begin with. If so, and the reports became public, he may not be happy with the Bin Zayed group making so many statements now.

But it would explain why he is adamant in his silence and also why BZG are willing to make statements. As they may have been willing to speak to the press and fans from day one but were held to silence under an agreement.

This news, or conjecture, really has no bearing on where the two parties are in regards to an agreement. Right now, with so many conflicting press reports, it would definitely be best for Mike Ashley to give some sort of clarifying statement.

This may be too much to ask for from the absent owner of this great club. This whole circus is also becoming too much to bear for us fans. As the thought of Ashley no longer involved with NUFC, is a most welcomed though indeed.

Said it on the previous post, Ashley keeping quiet is making him money. Since the speculation started SD share price has been on an upwards trend. He’s loving it. If he were to confirm and the share prices went up and then, (god forbid), it hit the fan he’d be liable to be done for stock manipulation. This way, he can keep making money and torture the fan base.

This deal is not going to happen in a month, never mind today. In fact it might not happen at all. But today there definitely won’t be any news. Sorry to tell you all.

Not sure what site you’re looking at WLtoon but http://www.binzayedgroup.com doesn’t show anything when i look at it. In fact, the news page simply says it’ll be updated soon. That message has probably been on there since 2008

What’s the URL you are looking at?

This is the official Bin Zayed Group website with all the news, not:

    http://www.binzayed.com/news.htm

If there is another website for the same organisation I haven’t found it. If someone can point it out it would be very helpful.

    Liverpool fan?!?

He’d better not be, he’ll be pushing old folk into fountains instead of concentrating on buying us.

    😉

The comment was on a NUFC sheikhover related post on LinkedIn, replying to someone congratulating him, so contextually he should have been talking about the sheikhover, not the Champs League.

As an aside, isn’t it traditional for a Liverpool player to have their house burgled when they’re away at a European Final? A disgruntled Everton fan or something. I wonder who it’ll be tonight?

I’ve always been impressed by the characters who run NUFC.COM with their clever and witty use of the English language. Their news bulletins for this story are very apt: Sheikh news

Non disclosure agreement in place sounds about right, there are probably heavy penalties in place if someone inadvertently lets the cat out of the bag, no doubt whoever leaked the story to the Sun is currently on holiday.
I’m theorizing no news is good news, obviously when people are desperate for updates and don’t get them they fear the worst.
Just have to wait.. simples ?

Also, as an organisation surely there must be other group news ?

And why no old news as all good organisations do on their corporate websites ?

    Warren,

An NDA is especially important if the two organisations have their shares listed as the leak could impact shareholder values, such as pension funds.

However, I believe the Arabs and Ashley are private companies. In such a scenario it can be beneficial to the seller as it will tell any other prospective buyers would the going price is.

Just think, if Ashley was on a Royal flight to Dubai he might never come back after insulting the Mansours (was it?). We can but hope they’d lock him up and leave him to rot!

Lee Ryder says Ashley has “signed a non-disclosure agreement” which would indicate he knows for a fact that both parties have signed a bilateral NDA which requires both parties to sign the NDA. He wouldn’t know this.
