Rafa Wants To Sign £20M Goal Machine This Summer

There are reports in the Columbia media today that Newcastle will launch a £20M bid for 22-year-old 3 times capped Columbian International forward Alfredo Morelos.

Morelos signed a three-year deal with Rangers from HJK Helsinki in June 2017 for an undisclosed fee, thought to be £1M – so this would be a massive profit for the Scottish Premiership club.

He had a great season for Rangers last season and in 48 total games he scored 30 goals and had 11 assists and there are reported to be a number of clubs interested in him.

While at HJK Helsinki, he played 62 games and scored 46 goals with 13 assists – so he can score the goals and create them too.

And while at Rangers for the last two seasons he has played 91 games with 48 goals and 19 assists although the league north of the border is a lot different than the English Premier league in class and skill.

Columbian outlet DonBalon claim that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez wants to sign the player this summer.

22-year-old Columbian International forward Alfredo Morelos

Marseille, Leicester and Borussia Dortmund and Leicester are all interested in the player.

But he has been controversial too over the last two seasons with 5 red cards so that may be something will look at before trying to sign the player.

We are linked with a lot of players who are quite expensive.

We’re not sure if these will be targets if Ashley remains the Newcastle owner or they will become targets if Sheikh Khaled is successful in buying the club.

Comments welcome.

This is a load of crap. Many people suggest Rafa could not trust mitro for his discipline. Some posters suggest Rafa can’t trust shelvey for his discipline.

Well let’s just go get this guy.

DonBalon, whoever he is, is a bloody idiot.

Read between the lines and there could be a bit of truth in Morelos.
This year he has played a very similar role to Rondon, and he obviously has talent. He just needs to get the ugly side of his game away. He leads the line by himself very well, and is a handful for any defence.
It seems quite clear that although Stevie G loves him to bits (his words), that Morelos will be off this summer. Maybe a few words from Gerrard telling him how good this lad could be with the right manager behind him. He’s a bit of a hot head no doubt, but I would take him in a heartbeat. A clear upgrade on the hoss, and young enough to learn and improve.

While we are at it with the links to Scotland, I cant believe Kieran Tierney hasn’t been mentioned yet as a new LWB. Fantastic little player, great attitude, and will probably fancy a move away now he hasn’t got Brendan Rodgers there. He would be my number one pick for LB/LWB this summer

Anyway, when’s this announcement coming? 😉

They say no news is good news, I also believe this to be true apart from when it involves anything to do with MA and Penfold.

It’s crazy that no one at St James can offer some light on this so-called takeover, forget about NDA,s which I still believe to be bullshit.

I remember Ashley on Sky talking about someone interested in purchasing Newcastle so no NDA in place, MA just loves to wind up and piss off the fans with no comment. You know he is laughing his fat ass off at all the turmoil this is causing the fans.

Ctommo, on Tierney I hate to say it but even if we had oil money behind us, there are bound to be European level teams after him, although perhaps we might be able to steal in if his injury troubles this year put some clubs off?

There aren’t many players in Scotland I would recommend though. I think Celtic have been after The lad Shinnie at Aberdeen for a while as a replacement for when Tierney leaves, very consistent player by all accounts and available at a reasonable price.

If we were take anyone from Scotland I’d hope it would either be Edouard or Ajer from Celtic. Those are two players that if someone doesn’t take the opportunity soon, they’ll be regretting it in a few years, similar to Van Dijk. Maybe Ryan Kent on loan at Rangers as an option on the left? Very direct, attacks his fullback and good on both feet.

What a mess this club is in right now. If this takeover doesn’t happen we are well and truly in the brown stuff, no manager, no striker, stuck with Ashley again, no midfield, no time for wheeling and dealing, furious fan backlash, and ending up with a below par and backroom staff to save us from another relegation threatened season.

I reckon the Fit and Proper person application was submitted last Friday, they hoped it would take 5 working days hence the hints to get the deal tied up but didn’t take into account the UK bank holiday on Monday, therefore it will happen on Monday next week.

    Just my opinion.

JohnReese, Im sure I read somewhere that Shinnie was off to Derby. Pre contract signed.

Agree to an extent on Edouard, but really unsure on Ajer. Then again, I used to think Van Dijk was over rated in a Celtic shirt !! Doh. I quite like Mcgregor at Celtic as well tbh, can see him moving on in a few years a bit like Armstrong did.

JohnReese, I’ll always hold on to a bit of hope, but realistically here there’s no need to be negative
    1) a Credible buyer has said that they want to but the club
    2) They have further stated they have submitted the relevant paperwork to the FA / Prem
    3) they said the only thing they are waiting for is the F&P person test result
    4) there is no denial from Ashley / NUFC

Anything else on top of that is irrelevant.

I also think that Rafa will announce that he has signed a new contract either at the same time or shortly after the club sale announcement, although that’s not grounded in fact.

Anyone being miserable or denying the sale at this point is just being intentionally grouchy. There’s only one thing that will stop it happening, and that’s failing the F&P test (they won’t, it’s a member of a Royal Family)

I reckon Edouard will probably have another year at Celtic then get his move. As far as I’m aware they’re looking for similar money as they got for Dembele, for him.

Ajer has all the attributes of a modern centreback for me, played in midfield in his younger years so he’s very comfortable on the ball and he’s a bloody giant! I think you’ll see him bulk up now that he’s settled at centreback, similar to De Ligt has this season and that will only improve his game. If say Clark was to go back to Villa or perhaps Lejuene doesn’t quite recover to be the same player I’d absolutely take the chance on him.

Mcgregor’s an interesting one, very versatile across midfield, he would provide more of an option for breaking through the lines but if Rafa’s still in charge I think he might prefer someone who’s more suited to deep progression of the ball.
