Our own Fabian Schar played in the UEFA Nations League semi-final for Switzerland against Portugal. The Newcastle United Twitter page sent out a tweet about him prior to the game.
They also mentioned a former player whose name was all over Twitter yesterday.
?? @fabianschaer will win his 49th cap for @SFV_ASF in tonight’s #UEFANationsLeague semi-final against Portugal.
Former Magpie @Kevin_Baboo also starts for the Rossocrociati at the Estádio do Dragão. The match is live on @SkySports. #NUFC https://t.co/PHLo5jRW6B
— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) June 5, 2019
Our former right-back Kevin Mbabu left the club in the summer of 2017 for a fee of only around £1M. He joined BSC Young Boys in the Swiss Super League.
Kevin’s poor history with injuries, we believe, led to his departure from Tyneside. He made only 5 appearances for the Newcastle first-team since joining in January of 2013 as a seventeen-year old.
Kevin was outstanding for Young Boys making over 100 appearances with 5 goals and 15 assists for them.
Kevin Mbabu– impressed football fans yesterday despite poor result
His excellent form in Switzerland has earned him a big move to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg for €9.2M and also a place in his national team.
Yesterday, it seems as though he introduced himself to the football fans of the world judging by responses on Twitter.
How good is @Kevin_Baboo though ?#Rafa released him on a free!!!

Tell you what…give me Mbabu at United. Energetic. Get’s forward. Isn’t named Ashley Young. He impressed me at Young Boys this year and so far today v Portugal #MUFC

Why don’t we sign mbabu he looks really good here against Portugal
— Patrick O’Halloran (@PatrickOhallor7) June 5, 2019
Mbabu is actually having a wavey game as well ? looks class
— Perez (@Perezinhio22) June 5, 2019
Mbabu and Shaqiri have looked fantastic in this game. I’d be stunned if no team signs Mbabu this summer.
— Aheggs (@Aheggs12) June 5, 2019
Kevin Mbabu is a top, top right back and that’s just a fact I’m afraid
— James (@saboWFC) June 5, 2019
Barca should get this Mbabu dude if we decide to sell Semedo
— Abu (@Abusule_) June 5, 2019
However, the locals know all about Kevin and were also on Twitter bemoaning the loss of the right-back
Wish Mbabu was still a Newcastle player #NUFC
— Mark ???? (@MarkMazzocchi) June 5, 2019
Sign Mbabu with that Oil money that you’re hopefully gonna announce
— Jack Bryan (@JackBryan08) June 5, 2019
Who’s idea was it to let Mbabu go ??#NationsLeague #nufc
— Jake (@jakeanufc) June 5, 2019
While the Swiss team ran up against the ageless Christiano Ronaldo who had a hat-trick, Kevin Mbabu seems to have increased his profile worldwide.
Of course, Ronaldo had something to say about that.

Comment #2Just proves that incumbents have been running the academy and have been in charge of young players careers.
How many unpolished gems have we discarded or ruined?
Our academy was never the greatest but under Ashley it’s been a place to fester and spoil.

Comment #3I think he had to leave to kick start his career. He was getting to caught up in the nightlife etc and lost his direction in football

Comment #4As much as it’s a shame he couldn’t do it with us. Some players do need to move on to take the step in their careers. As Kamakazeee eluded to, as has happened to a few younger players over the years, the nightlife seemed to get the better of him. Being moved on would have been a shock to the system and gave him the kick up the backside needed.

You don’t have to desperately pull up my past in order for your argument to hold weight.
Just accept that you over-reacted.
It can’t be that hard right?
And with this takeover on the horizon, may aswell get it out of the way before we rejoice.

Comment #11Mbabu may well have had his injury problems but wasn’t he along with another young player, involved in some hanky panky with a young lady in an hotel? Maybe Rafa saw something in his attitude that made him minded to let him go?
His talent was there for all to see and the big questions to be asked are:
Why wasn’t he loaned out to help him mature – away from the gold fish bowl that is Newcastle? Why no buyback option? Why no sell-on clause? Or, was a quick sale just a way of getting £1m into Ashley’s piggy bank?
However, Mbabu won’t be the first youngster to have been let go and matured to become a very good player.

You do know you are sounding more & more like comical Ally these days don’t you??
You know the Iraqi guy that went on tv & said the Americans were being defeated & burning in their tanks! Just as those tanks rolled through Baghdad!
You now come across like your praying Ashley stays ffs!

Seeing an Emirates plane coming in confirms that Emirates Airlines is still operating. That is a good sign for anybody going on their jollies but perhaps not so good for people coming back from them or going back to work on the outbound flight.

Comment #17The beauty of having a top manager is that you trust him to get it right, of course players that go on to be a success will be let go, sometimes the managers fault sometimes just circumstance, didn’t Mourinho let DeBruyne and Salah go, not sure about Salah mind. More often than not they’ll get it right. When things are going well nobody will even mention it was a mistake letting Mitro, Mbabu etc go, when you haven’t won for ten games then people love to put the boot in, it’s called mob mentality.

The snippet you posted last night was just that, hearsay with no real weight and no comeback.
You sound a bit paranoid, you been smoking too much? 😉
Anyway, did you enjoy the Jesse Fuller video? That fotdella (the foot operated bass) he used was his botch up of an old packing trunk, piano strings and keys which were played with the toes.
I’d always wanted to see him in the flesh but never did. The nearest I got was seeing an outdated poster advertising his appearance in the Hull University Folk Club – I’d missed him by a week!

I think we’re all grasping at any sign that Ashley’s in the departure lounge. Now where would posters like him to be off to?

Comment #27I knew Rafa made a mistake the instant he sold Mbabu. Was really surprised and disappointed he did especially when we were heading for the championship and he would have learned the ropes there first. He had all the attributes to become a great player for us- speed, strength, young and good with the ball. Gutted he left to be honest. We should buy him back.

Comment #31JC from last night – if you’re reading.
Don’t give up your ST mate. Once this takeover happens you’ll find it difficult to get it back next season.
I would suggest you renew and sell your seat when you can’t attend. You can do it through the club. You’ll have no problem selling it, seats will be in demand.
Seems a shame if you’ve kept it only to lose it now by not renewing.

It is just your opinion that it was a mistake just as that it was a mistake to let Mitro go, given that Fulham set up their team around him and got relegated it sways my opinion as to whether it was or wasn’t a mistake.
