Today marks the five year anniversary of Ayoze Perez’s transfer to Newcastle United. The club have put out a tweet commemorating this event.

Ayoze officially signed for Newcastle United on June 6, 2014 from Tenerife for a fee of 1.5M. He has since become a very popular player who has always held the city and its people in high regard.
Perez has made 195 appearances for the club with 48 goals and 17 assists. The past two seasons Ayoze has blossomed after poor starts.
This past season especially saw Ayoze on the brink of something special. It looks like his game is about to burst like a burgeoning star.
Ayoze Perez– Newcastle is where he belongs
There have been recent whispers of big money moves to the likes of Inter Milan, Tottenham, and Arsenal. The latter of which the press reported he would “jump at the chance” of joining.
Ayoze did speak of greener pastures earlier this year when he made some comments about returning to Spain in March.
“I believe in the cycles. I think there is a moment where you plan things, to undergo a change and I think after five years, I think it’s the moment.”
“To go back to your country and play for a big team and enjoy La Liga, would be something great for my career.”
He went on to clarify those comments in April but still hinted at the possibility of looking for a new challenge if the opportunity arose.
“Obviously it has been five great years over here and I have improved a lot as a player and a person.”
“Obviously it was translated quite different to what I meant.”
“I just said that in summer there are going to be options. That means I have done something well,”
“But what I tried to say was I’ll be up to hearing what is coming, but it doesn’t mean I am going to leave 100%.”
“I can hear what is coming for me, what they offer for me, and that’s it, but it doesn’t mean I am going to leave 100% at the end of the season.”
“It is going to be a difficult decision. It depends on a lot of things.”
It is understandable that after five years at a club, one which has struggled as vexingly as Newcastle have, that Ayoze would be willing to entertain offers and start a new cycle.
However, with news of the takeover taking off yesterday and today’s revelation by Craig Waugh that Rafa is likely to sign a deal for at least the next few years; we have to believe that Ayoze will be part of the new exciting cycle that is about to begin at Newcastle United.
