Our very own Sean Longstaff has given a great interview to NUFC TV recently. It seems he is progressing well from his knee injury and is also really exciting about his future prospects.
Sean Longstaff– a Magpie for years to come
Sean Longstaff has become a revelation with his performances this past season. After finding it hard to get on the pitch, Young Sean finally got his chance this past January and he was absolutely immense.
His calm demeanor and footballing brain belied his inexperience as he just seemed to stroll through games. He always made himself available with his subtle movement.
It was like he had been doing this in the Premier League for a decade. He just oozed class and it was so fun to watch.
But for an unfortunate knee-injury shortening his season, Longstaff had become irreplaceable as he kept the experienced Jonjo Shelvey and Ki Sung-Yueng sidelined.
This past month has seen the transfer rumours swirl around the local lad. With the most prominent being a £25M link to Manchester United.
Sean spoke of that link and his progression this season to NUFC TV:
“It just shows how far I’ve come. If someone told us at the start of the season that by the end of it you’d be linked with these teams I’d have laughed at them but it’s nice, it’s flattering. I’m massively flattered to have my name even mentioned in those conversations but like I said, I’m 100% focused on Newcastle and trying to get fit and get back in the team here.”
While Sean is flattered about interest from top clubs, especially as his new found fame is only months old, he reiterated what many fans were longing to hear.
“For me it’s nice to be have said about you and be linked with top clubs but for me, this is what I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve always wanted to play for Newcastle and I’ve only had a little taste of that so for me, it’s about getting fit as soon as I can and getting back on the pitch for Newcastle and making more memories of the future.”
We like the sound of memories for the future at Newcastle. And who knows, maybe even some memories for England await as well.
When asked if Newcastle remained his focus, Sean gave us a glimpse into his desire to be a success at Newcastle in the coming years:
“Absolutely. I think I have dreamt of this from Boxing Day to the day I got injured – I dreamt of that month since I was a little boy. Three months isn’t enough. I’m not satisified with playing nine games, I want to play as much as I can and do it for a full season.”
We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this midfield gem. We are so impressed with this youngster’s rapid development and complete game.
We hope to see Sean in the black and white stripes of Newcastle United for many full seasons ahead.

I’ll be supprised if there’s any SD adverts left.
The sheikh wants to ride in here with a white horse.
Him taking over, signing up Rafa then a couple of decent signings.
He is no mug, be isn’t going to spend £350 mill and let Ashley get the benefits!
Why pay £350 mill for something that can’t generate money

I’ve posted stuff before.
Just not about Rafa meeting the sheikhs reps in London. That was tonight.
Ashley has not offered a contract to Rafa

It’s the only reason Ashley would start paying for ads, he wont have the whole ground but I’d be surprised if everything was gone.
Pleasantly surprised.

Comment #48Ben.g: gets more sensible on here at night usually so you might get asked a few questions. Not as much Fight Club, Hovis ads or licking road clean wit tongue when it gets past midnight.

Comment #51Just as a comparison from a timeline perspective…..I’ve just been looking at John Henry’s acquisition of Liverpool.
He incorporated his holding company on 1st October 2010, the official announcement was made on 10th October 2010 and then the new directors were appointed on 11th October 2010
So,if that same process applies we might here something by the end of next week

I’m putting 2 and 2 together, he’s only just started to pay for advertising it ties in with him looking like he’s really selling the club.
I’m guessing he’s gave himself a fair but decent deal and obviously will have cherry picked his spots.
They may have said “no” and bought his ad space out, but I’d honestly be shocked if when he leaves all sign is gone, he’s too greedy and devious.

Comment #60ben.g, that’s an interesting little snippet. I had speculated before on here that Rafa may have met with the Sheikh or his people in London, based on what he said, something along the lines of “Charnley will be there, I don’t know who else will be there” after the Fulham match. Everyone went off it, assuming he meant that he didn’t know if Ashley would turn up, but in hindsight it might have meant something quite different.
I always said the hotel (Grosvenor?) was a bit swish for Ashley, who is not a flash Harry in most regards (Italian restaurant for the squad meal, SD shareholders meetings in fairly austere places).
This is the first time I’ve heard anyone giving any kind of substance to that, so thanks for sharing.

Comment #62TyneMouth, we were away camping in Appleby with friends the last bank holiday weekend, so I missed your post first time round. It almost seems a shame that you’ve got an interesting source on Ashley when it looks like she’ll not be needed for much longer.
😉
Still very interesting, though. It just goes to show that there’s info out there if people care to look for it. Our friendly journalists at the Chronicle just don’t seem to be able / willing to do so….

Comment #66Hi, Newcastle fan from st Helen’s I’ve supported Newcastle for around 30 years. I haven’t posted in years as I just preferred to read the blog but with exciting times ahead I’m coming out of the wood work. Living in st Helen’s which is 10 minutes from liverpool and also working in liverpool is difficult especially having to put up with all them scousers. Let’s hope and pray this take over comes to fruitation. And the top six become a top 7.

Comment #67Not that it means much without real proof that it happened, but it certainly makes sense for Ashley and the Sheik’s reps to want to bring Rafa into the loop to reassure him him and keep things on an even keel. Ashley would never be in a position to sell for 350 million without Rafa keeping us up on a zero net spend. There really should be nothing but total respect for what he’s done for us since he arrived. The crying shame is that we were relegated 4 seasons back, because if we hadn’t we’d probably have been sold that close season.
By the way, does anybody know what this guy is actually worth?

You’re Absolutely correct…..but that was a different kind of transaction.
Ashley was buying a majority stake in a PLC, it took several months for him to buy the remaining shares.
The reason I looked at the Liverpool transaction is that it mirrors our current situation
But, fair comment – An announcement is imminent, just trying to reassure the troops 🙂
